As people have pointed out when this question is sometimes asked, it is difficult to make good model boat sails without using a block (or the Claudio gadget) due to the difficulty in gettng smooth seams without a block.

You can find a lot of info on the Claudio gadget by googling Claudio gadget and Claudio sailmaking.
