Fran and the rest,

Tom Phillips will not be able to come after all but I am coming. My entry was submitted online a minute ago.

I will be driving up early on Saturday and staying just the one night. If anyone has space in their hotel room, I am happy to share the room cost. Otherwise I will book my own room.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Okay, I need to crow a bit. Mine was the first post 5 September after Fran started the string here on this reschedule from September. Since, I have trashed this thread with my hype to those watching the regatta threads to get into giddy-up mode for a blow out in December. Hype works and it generates entries to a regatta for the benefit of all. You think this worked out well to have 30 entries after normal attrition during the time, it always does? I have said before and say it again, if you want to have an outing with your buddies you have to get on the phone. It does not happen out of thin air.

I am going to predict right now, the regional championship to be schedule in September 2014 right here, will be the biggest event every seen outside a NCR in Dixie. You can bet your booty on it and I will be on the white horse in full dress with a plumed hat leading the charge through the peach orchard with three battalions; Fran probably shudders at the thought. It will happen.

See you guys Friday night at 1730...

The 15th Sun City Regatta
The 15th Sun City Regatta for East Coast 12 Meters , was held on December 8, 9 2012 at Lake Somerset in Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The field was an impressive 31 skippers, which included four National Champions and two World Champions. Also attending were the new EC 12 Class Secretary Joe Walter and our AMYA President Dave Brawner
Regatta Registrar Fran DiTommaso, Race Director Dale Smith and the Sun City crew provided the usual impressive land side activities and racing. Temperatures were in the unseasonal 70’s and the winds were unfortunately unseasonably light as well.
The skippers sailed in two fleets with the initial fleets formed by the class seeding list.
Despite very light winds on Saturday the fleet managed to drift through 7 races (14 heats).
On Sunday, the winds actually “lightened up”! The fleet drifted through one heat and the racing was abandoned at 11am.

I want to thank Fran and Dale and all their race staff/club members and wives for putting on a fantastic regatta and dinner party. They have set the bar very high for the rest of us to follow. Mother nature did not deliver on wind. But the Sun City club more than made up for it.

It was also great to meet some new faces from around the country. I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with many of you, especially the Maryland guys. I grew up sailing in their back yard and it was nice to talk about Annapolis.

Thank you Sun City.

I said my thanks to all at the finale meeting but again, you cannot beat the hospitality here. It is hard to beat the race management and the hosting evenings for this event. You do not go to a restaurant on Saturday, you go to a home.

This is a special place with special considerations and you should come. Now that I am not moving around for the class, this will be a regular stop annually.

Dale...Et Al, a wonderful effort. Thank you.

Fran, Dale, Tim, Al, Carter and the rest of the Sun City Club,
Thanks for a great weekend. Everything that was under your control was accomplished in terrific fashion. It's amazing that we got in as much racing as we did. I look forward to getting down there again. Hopefully, it won't take me another five years.

Great fun. Very well done Dale and staff and party hosts. Lotta zany people.

I had to take a few pictures to document Dick Gerry and Becky almost beating Danny Thomas and also my roomie and good friend little Jim R getting into and staying in A fleet. Not like that is the first time, and it is not.

Link to my picassa home page - Sun City Regatta 2012
https://picasaweb.google.com/115927025040753736424

(Also I made my 2012 St Aug NCR pictures public.)

Other cool stuff. To me anyway.
Reichard's buddy Jim Dave Linville finished building his new boat 2099 just in time to float it one time and then sailed in the regatta and finished in 7th place. Tuned by Baron.
Mervin Jones got scored in A fleet every race. Not easy for anyone in those super-light conditions.
I think they just got behind Dave Brawner and followed him around the course. Why didn't I think of that?
