It's that time of year again. The Annapolis EC12 Regatta is less then a month away. On-line registration is up and running. We have our first official entry of Mr. Ramos. Dave Branning is talking about bringing a contingent of from Tilghman Island.

For those heading south to the Nationals this would be a great tune up regatta for you.

Looking forward to seeing you all in October.

All the best,
Ernest

Charleston has been closed and the next regatta is Annapolis. I have no idea what is going on there or the process toward the regatta. This is a Regional Championship and hope that those in the Colonial area know about and its importance as a championship and the road to the nationals.

Ernie Freeland is the contact for more information not the class.

Just got a call from the current Colonial Cup leader Jamey Betz. He is working hard to execute repairs to his boat to race this weekend.

Wotring and Brawner are out.....

Folks, this is the last regatta before Nationals and the points are doubled for the seeding list to start the first heat at the NCR. It is a good opportunity to add to your score and move up on the list.

When this regatta is over on Sunday, I will be posting the complete list of skippers and their starting fleet for the NCR on the Nationals Website.

Get your entries in to Ernie. And Good luck.

Below is a copy of the e-mail I sent to skippers last night. I didn't have a few e-mail addresses and one bounced so I wanted to post it here.

The attachments mentioned below may be found here: http://www.rcyachts.com/CBMRA.htm

******** e-mail below **********

Skippers,

We are excited to welcome you to Annapolis on Saturday morning. The weather looks to be near perfect with temperatures in the mid sixties both days and winds 6 - 9 MPH. We have almost always had at least one day with B rigs in the past but maybe that will change this year.

I have attached the SI's and NOR for your review.

A few reminders to make your weekend run smoothly. There is a park entry fee that is not included in your entry. The gate may not be attended in the morning but it does take cash. So throw a few extra dollar bills in your wallet so you can get in. We sail over by the marina which is to your right after you enter the park. Follow the signs.

The park has added a few more guidelines for us this year. Please set up only on the grass areas by the marina. We need to keep all of the paved areas and walkways clear of our gear. Also please make sure you park in a designated parking space.

We are planning a dutch treat meal Saturday night. Please let me know if you are interested. Depending on the size of the group we will select a time and location on Saturday afternoon for dinner.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

All the best,
Ernest

Day one is in the books! We have made it to the midpoint at least time wise for the regatta. We managed to get in 15 races today, windward leeward, twice around. The weather couldn't be more perfect temperature wise, most ended up in short sleeve shirts and a few were sporting shorts. The wind was a struggle today. It just wouldn't settle down from the forecasted direction and the wind speed was all over the place. The skippers needed to play the shifts and the puffs to navigate the course the fastest. Four skippers have gotten first place finishes, Betz, Branning, Ramos and Rinehart. Betz has three bullets, Branning one bullet, Ramos has five bullets and Rinehart six bullets. The sailing has been close and fun to watch. Today I think I experienced the quietest EC12 Race I have ever been a part of, everyone had eyes glued on the water looking for an advantage. We are back on the water tomorrow morning to determine the winner of the 2012 Annapolis EC12 Regatta. The weather forecast is for more of the same from today. If the forecasted winds arrive it will be a perfect fall day for sailing EC12's.

The scores below do not include throw outs. (throw outs are going to tighten up the top four for sure)

Place Name Sail # Score
1 David Ramos 5 36
2 Mark Rinehart 66 42
3 Jamey Betz 34 51
4 Don Barker 25 75
5 Dave Branning 71 86
6 Doug Hutchinson 21 89
7 Victor Oberg 75 107
8 Kevin Maclellan 13 108
9 Roger Baldwin 4 132
10 Christopher Bock 49 133

Well we have crowned the 2012 Annapolis EC12 Regatta and Region 2 Champion. This regatta also marks the end of the sailing season for the Colonial Cup. Over two days we sounded the starting gun 27 times in conditions that covered the spectrum. We saw light and shifty to puffy and scary for short periods of time. Never did the wind maintain velocity long enough for the skippers to pull out their B Rigs.

In the end Dave Ramos took home the top award. Mark Rinehart, Jamey Betz and Don Barker all sailed well to keep the competition close. Dave finished the regatta with three bullets to bring his total to ten for first place finishes. Not to be out done Rinehart also matched Ramos with ten bullets for the regatta. Jamey had six bullets evenly split between the two days and Dave Branning had the other bullet. Very consistent and generally in the hunt was Don Barker. Every skipper had at least a top five finish and seven of the skippers had a top three or better finish. After throw outs there were no changes in the top eight positions.

The weather was near perfect each day and on Sunday the skippers were having as much fun socializing on the dock as they were sailing. It was a struggle to motivate them to splash their boats to go sailing again. They seemed to be having a lot of fun talking about RC sailboats and the such.

If you haven't sailed in this regatta you are missing one of the great EC12 sailing venues. Over the last four years of regattas we have always had good winds, the sailing venue is elevated over the start finish line and it a dry launching area from the floating dock. Hopefully you can join us in 2013.

Place Name Sail # Score
1 David Ramos 5 42
2 Mark Rinehart 66 50
3 Jamey Betz 34 60
4 Don Barker 25 100
5 Doug Hutchinson 21 117
6 Dave Branning 71 124
7 Victor Oberg 75 161
8 Roger Baldwin 4 179
9 Christopher Bock 49 184
10 John Kircher 76 187
11 Kevin Maclellan 13 212 Sailed one Day
12 David Littleton 6 299 Registered did not sail

This was my second Annapolis EC12 Regatta and a not to miss event on my calendar. From the parking, launch area, great lunches, elevated sailing venue and the Freeland's as terrific hosts, this is one of the best events, especially in fall when the leaves and breezes are at their best. Congrats to Dave Ramos and Mark Rinehart for the chance to compete against the best of skippers in our region, or nationally, for that matter. The shame is the dozens of EC12 skippers within 2 hrs who chose to stay away from the final Colonial Cup event. You missed a fun time with great people. Thanks Ernie and Amanda for a quality event. And thanks to Dave Ramos for all the buoy help for Ernie.

Ernie,

sound like you had some of the best weather in the last few years. I remember some solid B rig conditions inthe last few years.

Sorry I could not make it...

Good luck to all who head to St Augustine...
