Hmmm, EC12 is not listed as a class yet the logo is.

Nonetheless, there will be a major bash this August and then again in the fall of 2008.

Follow along above for updates to Region 4 Championship Regatta and see current list of skippers, updated daily......

All those with "Dudinsky lifts" are asked to please bring them with you. Camp Dearborn is a seawalled pond with sidewalk up to the edge, so these devices will be handy......also please make yours available to other skippers who may need to borrow.

Since entries sit at 19, we have extended the "no late fee" to register until this Saturday midnight. Would love to get to 20.
At 19, do we have one fleet or two?

I think you should try something different for this regatta. In honor of the Tour De France, have a 50 lap individual time trial instead of fleet racing. The guy who does all 50 laps in the least amount of time wins.

No bathroom breaks or battery changing.[:D]

Seriously, I wish I was going. If the lake is big enough, I would put all 19 on the line together.

Heck Joe, screw the Tour, we'll do a tribute to Daytona and do 200 laps non stop, pit whenever you need to and pottybreak is each skippers personal call. "Rubbin" allowed at the windward mark..... if you get hungry, and want food, we;ll bring it to you, just don't get any in your transmitter....

PS Pond plenty big to set line for 19 boats.....

I'd like to see a tribute to the 24 hour races of Daytona and Lemans.

2 skippers one boat. continuous racing. most laps in 24 hours wins.

There is nothing wrong with a 17-20 boat regatta. More is not always better except for the expenses.

I like large fleets in a single start. One soon learns that forcing issues on such starts will put you at the back of the fleet quickly. There are the Rules but this Dummy wants a clean start wherever I can get it. The big NO-NO is port tacking and lee bowing. The idiots that do that will be at the back of the fleet and feeling the heat of their friends. The sad part is they will take one or two good sailors with them. This is a race committee cop thing for me.

Rinehart started 18 at Pink's Pond in Cambridge this last weekend on a shortened start line for the pond (small sailing area) and there were very few issues. He also did something I really liked and was to have a very small finish line. I think it was about 25 feet. It provided close racing with tactical consideration. It was super.

The key to a large fleet start is the distance and placement of the windward mark(s). There will be more problems there and on the start.

BTW, I told people this weekend to call you if they wanted to go and refuse to pay the extra...[:D]

raceer1, My opinion regarding the 20 boats on a large or long starting line is fine if you can see the line, AND the wind speed is less than 10 mph. Last year at Delia Pond when 18 boats started it was very hard to see your boat. I realize I am half blind but in the best interest of others I feel the answer is: IT DEPENDS. I.E. THE WIND SPEED SHOULD DETERMINE IF THERE IS ONE OR TWO FLEETS.

Sunday, skippers were greeted by light showers that minimized to a drizzle then a mist then overcast. Winds were in the 4-6 range most of the day. Headquarters were moved around the pond and the skippers sailed left to right. RD Jim Grover restricted boats from going downwind through S/F to avoid the "head ons" that were occurring Saturday. Skippers used the slight bank on the side of the pond to improve site lines and then quickly walked down to the sidewalk and walked alongside their boats. Racing was called at 3:30 PM and awards were presented. Traditional DMYC award for the skipper traveling the farthest went to Mark Rinehart, who edged out Dave Brawner by the fact that he drove up to Dave's house in NJ to ride to Detroit together. Mark received a Detroit Tiger "Tom Selleck " look alike ball cap. Everyone promised to travel safely home......
