Come one Come all to the Palm Beach Gardens Model Yacht Squadron's 2018 Valentines Day Regatta on February 10th and 11th. Trophies of unparalleled taste and distinction will given to the first 5 places.

This regatta is known for the outstanding venue, FOOD and the Friday Night gathering. This year our club's Treasurer and this year's RD has graciously agreed to again host at his gorgeous home on the North Palm Beach Country Club. Rumor has it that live music may also be included again this year.

Saturday's Lunch includes Jon's famous "No Bull" Chili, hot pizza, hot dogs, pizza and fresh baked treats by our lovely ladies. If you feel bad about your racing results, the food and social activities will fix that.

Saturday Night's dinner is planned for Duffy's. Our own room, Happy hour all the time and separate checks! MMMMM! RIBS!

I am looking forward to seeing you all come!

Entries are coming in and can be seen by clicking this link:

I am surprised that many of the regulars who have indicated that they will be racing have not signed up.
Please do it now so we can order some perfect wind.

Nice to see Steve Pfeil coming out to sail with us again, but I am pretty sure there is no 11111 sail number in the EC12 Class. I could be mistaken....NO...wait....I am not mistaken.

Lets go people. The time is getting near and we need to do much better than 15 boats. The Palm Beach Gardens club always puts on a great event and you can't beat all the Valentines treats the ladies bring to the lake. I am guessing "NO BULL" chili is on the lunch menu as well.

Ahoy all and George B. Sorry to say my plans to attend this years regatta have been foiled due to my clumsiness. While working in my shop I tripped and fell and in the process of catching my fall, I put my hand through my deck and crushed it in. Shattering all the cross beams and the collateral damage from the cross beams put holes on both sides of the hull. Needless to say I'm Bummed! I have a lot of work to do to even be able to salvage what's left. At this point the Champions regatta is in doubt as well. I hope you all have a great time and I'll look forward to seeing you on the water sometime later. Hi George, Thank you so much for your invite, I was so looking forward to visiting with you.

Cheers,
DT

Sorry to hear that Danny and hope you did not hurt yourself.
Earnan is going to sign up tonight.
Reichard has had to drop out due to work circumstances.
Dick Reinke is battling vertigo and an inner ear infection and has to drop out.

What happened to Calvin, John G, Don Q, Frank L, Brenda, Martin, Jim R, and others who we have seen at recent regattas??????????
There is still time to sign in. Please do it now.

The weather forecast at this time looks to be in the low 70 degrees-PERFECT. Winds of about 10 mph from the east. The last hurricane took out the big live oak that was to the east of the pond and greatly improved our sailing with easterly winds. However the big Banyon to the south is still up but we set courses more to the north now and avoid it as much as we can.

The party is on for Friday evening. I will send registered skippers directions and time next week.

Friday night Feb 9 2018 Chester Brewer will be hosting a BYOB party at his house. Lots of food, lots of hors d’oeuvres, lots of sea stories and some of them may be true. Meet your competitors and members of PBGMYS. We will also have live music! This is a BYOB, but setups will be provided. The party will begin at 6:00PM

Chester's address is:
837 Anchorage Drive
North Palm Beach, FL

Park at the Tarmac of America Building which is on the NW Corner of Anchorage Drive and US 1. It is two houses east of Chester's home. Please do not Park at Chester's home.

If you are staying at the Super 8 North Palm Beach Motel, Chester's home is 3 houses away and you can easily walk.

The Saturday Night Dinner will be at Duffy’s restaurant at 11588 U.S. Hwy 1 N, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. Cocktails begin at 5:30, dinner ordered by 6:30. A 20% gratuity will be added, as is standard for group events. It will be Dutch Treat.

Wonderful day in paradise today. Wind was tricky though. The top five are with total score but not throw out:

1. Earnan Scavella 35
2. Alan Perkins 44
3. Robert Greer 45
4. Joe Walter 50
5. Chuck Millican 51
6. Jon Luscomb 54
6. Gerhard Kelter 54

Ok so that was six, but I like Jon and Gerhard.

Ok. So thanks to Alan Perkins doing the math on the incomplete score sheet the new standings after throw outs have not changed anything to except Jon and Gerhard are no longer tied. Gerhard is just one point back.

Many ways to describe this regatta but first it was FUN. Wild and wooly was the wind with huge shifts and B rig for most of Sunday. The course was challenging with many changes in positions during each heat of a windward- leeward two and a half lap course.

One of our members, Brent Headberg and his son made a video of the Valentines regatta:

By the way, Brent is Dennis' brother who is back sailing with his new EC-12.

And here is a photo of the winners;
