2017 Champions Regatta

It is that time of the year again, time to round up the troops and find out who will be sailing in this years CR. Below is the list of those skippers sitting in the top qualifying positions for each of the four groups. The list will be updated as the qualifiers accept or decline down to but no further than 10th place as per the CR guidelines. The NOR and entry info will be posted here shortly as soon as available.

I talked to the park today and at this time there are 6 cabins still available if anyone would like for me to make the reservation and take advantage of the Charleston County resident discount. Being that we are within 40 days of the reservation date I will need credit card info up front in order to do this.

Anyone heading to Charleston early? I'm heading up on Thursday morning from Palm Beach and will be eating a lot if anyone wants to hook up. Will be at the pond Friday at 2 for Friday Rules Sailing.

Thank God it didn't rain on us but the wind picked up to 10-15 out of the NNE and the temperature dropped to the mid 40's as we finished off the weekend. Seven more races were sailed in shifty conditions for a total of 22 for the regatta and most had B rigs on. Here are the results after the one throw out.

Dave Ramos 52
Danny Thomas 71
Joe Walter 98
Gerry Cobley 101
Jon Luscomb 111
David Linville 114
Scott Vernon 157
Bob Greer 163
Alan Perkins 190 (retired race 15)
Scott Graf 198
George Balaschak 199
Chuck Millican 233
Dick Reinke 245
Dave Branning 267 (retired race 16)
Lew English 278
Dave Hammett 341 (retired race 4)

Ramos and Danny put on a show. Congrats to Dave for taking home the now repaired clock and congrats to Danny for nipping at his heels! Jerry and Joe each strung bullets together when they needed them. Joe sailed like a man with a mission on Sunday and won 3 out of 7....pretty good! I had a good time and thanks Reichart and his volunteers for a simple and very relaxed weekend. Charleston is an awesome place.

To Reichart, his helpers and all of the competitors,
Thank you for a great weekend. And to any of you who, like me, luck into an invite, take it. Unless your ego can't handle being last. This is a regatta unlike any other. These are the "Top Guns" in the fleet. Being able to sail, drink and hang out with this group was a real treat. Also, to those who took the time to aid and advise the rookie (you know who you are), a special thanks. It was a special time.
Thank you all,
Lew English 2380

Additional note: While I was freezing my butt off Sunday morning, Joe Walter was in shorts! Where do we find such men?

Yes I was in shorts, but I was wearing socks....Also a sweater, coat, hat, and gloves for a while. But I gave my gloves to Doc Greer. It was cold for sure.

Great run event. Reichard gave us great courses in difficult conditions. Sorry Alan Perkins had to drop out with his foot injury. I know he wanted to keep going. And also sorry Dave Branning's back made him sit out Sunday. It is always great to sail with Dave. One of the best attitudes on the water.

Get him to tell you the joke about the picnic. But not in mixed company.

Congratulations Dave Ramos on your win.
