This one is a bit far for me to get to this year, but I sure hope there is a great turnout from all you northern and mid-western skippers. Let's support this new club. They have a really nice venue with wide open water for lots of good wind and a high vantage point from a seawall.

If you have Facebook here is a photo album from our first ever event back in April. You can see how nice the facility is on the pictures.

I'm assuming Sean and Tiffany will be there, but I see from Facebook, they are flying gliders in Utah right now.

Come Back Down to Earth Sean!!

No new entries since my last update. Looks like we will have 13 to 15 boats which is just about right. If you are thinking of attending please do so by the 9th

We are working on places to go to dinner Thursday, for the early arrivals, and Friday for a group dinner. I'll have details as soon as I have them.

The weather forecast is near perfect, 80 degrees both days with west wind (good direction for our site) of 9 to 12 on Friday and 6 to 9 on Saturday. Gonna be a fun weekend.

Day one done and in the books.

When we arrived at the lake the wind was a nice B rig velocity (the forecast was 14 to 18), the lake we sail on has some small chop to add to the fun and we were ready to go. Then, as seems to be the norm, someone pushed the timer button and the wind dropped dramatically. Darn start buttons!

We all left out B rigs on and sailed in wind coming from various directions and various strength. I would call it "Character Building" sailing. You could be sailing along nice as can be in a good position and suddenly the entire fleet would get a puff and sail higher and faster right past you....grrrrr!!! Some of us eventually changed to A rigs but even in light air it didn't help much. Frank Vella (the RD) and his crew did a great job. He even set two courses for a north or west wind. We did get in 14 races and stopped a little early because I think all of us had run out of energy, mental and physical.

After 14 races, and 2 throw outs, the results so far are:

Ramos-25
Brawner-26
Flack-28
Leonard-68
Vanover-72
Mohring-74
Stone-74
Townsend-79
West-83
Markey-86
Gros-97
Boerema-136
Bowers-146

Wow, looks like Ramos, Brawner and Flack got the lion's share of all the firsts, seconds and thirds. You guys need to learn to share a little.

Great report. I hope the weather holds for you tomorrow.

All done here is Michigan, another light air day, but much better than yesterday.

All the results aren't done but I do have the top five, congratulations to Dave Brawner for winning our Region 4 Great Lakes Championship:

Brawner
Ramos'
Flack
Mohring
Leonard.

Frank Vella is still working on the final results, as soon as I have them I will post them,

Larry Markey had us all over to his shop for burgers and some relaxation after the sailing today which kind of slowed down getting the results done but it sure was fun!

We just had another great week of adult summer camp with the J Nationals in Chicago followed by the EC12 regatta in Detroit thanks to efforts of the local clubs. Both events were fantastic. I feel fortunate to have been able to attend both. In theory, we went because of the sailing opportunity. In reality, the video car racing competition, the indoor skydiving and the go cart racing certainly added to the fun. A handful of skippers even got a ride in a Ferrari at a multiple of three or four times the speed limit.

Thanks to the cooperation between the two clubs, we were able to schedule these events to make it work out for traveling skippers. Jeff Gros gets a big thank you for the original idea. Also another big thank you to Ted and Jerry, who picked up the ball in Detroit when the original coordinator failed to follow through.

This was simply fun. Let's do it again soon.
