2016 Colonial Cup Regattas

Postby Dave_Branning » Mon Feb 29, 2016 2:43 pm

It’s Official! The Colonial Cup for 2016 now has five EC12 Regattas at five terrific venues in our area. We do not need to count a Region 1 event this year as part of our qualification series for the Champions Regatta held next year. The lineup includes three spring regattas and three fall regattas, skipping the probable light air iffy conditions in June, July and August. We welcome the Allegheny Mountain Regatta this year in State College, Pa, thanks to Regatta Chmn, Fred Maurer. We now have five and will count 4 for the Champions Regatta qualification.
Here’s the 2016 Colonial Cup Events and four of them have links for you to step up and sign up right now. It’s going to be a great 2016 EC12 year.

After three Colonial Cup events so far this Spring we have a trend. Ramos and Thomas are at the top. Really? . Jamey Betz, fresh from a blitz of the fleet at The Roar at the Shore, moves to a tie with DT in second place making it interesting. Jim Flach, after a great 4th at Spring Lake, moved to 6th, just behind Harry Mote. Here's the top ten below with Tilghman and Annapolis regattas remaining in the fall....we have lots of time to practice this summer. Region 3 has the Triangle Cup (June 11-1) as does Stowe, VT, June 4-5. Slap on the Easy Pass and "road trip."

The top Ten Colonial Cup Skippers
1. Dave Ramos 73
2. Danny Thomas 69
2. Jamey Betz 69
4. Dave Branning 53
5. Harry Mote 47
6. Jim Flach 46
7. Scott Graf 45
8. Dave Hammett 43
9. David Brawner 34
10. Mark Rinehart 33

With the Tilghman Regatta in the rear view mirror, we focus on this weekend's Annapolis Regatta. The standings for the Colonial Cup now has 4 regattas to our credit and here are the standings going into the Annapolis Regatta weekend. We are tied at the top between Jamey and Dave with Danny just two points back. Should be a dog fight this weekend. Good seasonal performance from Jim Flach to maintain 4th and to Roger Baldwin to remain in the top ten. See...it pays to show up for all the events. Show up...move up.

Results Through 4 Colonial Events
1. David Ramos 91 pts
1. Jamey Betz 91 pts
3. Danny Thomas 89 pts
4. Jim Flach 62 pts
5. Harry Mote 59 pts
5. Scott Graf 59 pts
7. Dave Branning 58 pts
8. Mark Rinehart 57 pts
9. Dave Hammett 43 pts
10. Roger Baldwin 36 pts

Re: 2016 Colonial Cup Regattas

Postby Dave_Branning » Fri Dec 16, 2016 12:41 pm

The 2016 Colonial Cup season is over and we logged 5 regattas in our own region this year. We did not have to use a R1 regatta as a choice for the Colonial Cup and our thanks to all five regatta chairman for your excellent regatta planning and execution. We look forward to another year of 5 EC12 Colonial Cup events in 2017.
The standings are below and congratulations to Dave Ramos for winning the 2016 Colonial Cup. Although tied on points with Jamey Betz, he beat Jamey in three of the five events. Great sailing all around down the line with Danny Thomas and Jim Flach rounding out the top four. Jim Flach is a rising star in our region and this is his highest EC12 Colonial finish.

The top five automatically qualify for the 2017 Champions Regatta to be held March 11-12 in Charleston, SC. Please let me know if you are not planning on sailing in this event so we can have the EC12 Class invite other top ten finishes to fill out our Colonial five entrants. This regatta may fit a travel schedule for some guys who are racing in the Marco Island RC Laser Midwinters held the weekend before Champions.

The Colonial Cup Top Ten:
1. David Ramos 91 pts
1. Jamey Betz 91 pts
3. Danny Thomas 90 pts
4. Jim Flach 67 pts
5. Dave Branning 64 pts
6. Scott Graf 62 pts
7. Harry Mote 59 pts
8. Mark Rinehart 57 pts
9. Dave Hammett 52 pts
10. Roger Baldwin 37 pts
