What a great weekend in the Villages. Chamber of Commerce weather both days, if you don't count the 3 minutes of rain on Sunday, just before the B-fleet took to the water for the start. The wind was right down the lake shore from East to West for a change which gave us great weather legs. Ricky Bobby did a great job as RD so his father-in-law could sail on his home lake. This put Ricky one step closer to the black Camaro.
Alan Perkins was the star of the regatta. Working hard to get a narrow lead on Saturday and then just slamming the door shut on any chance of catching him on Sunday with bullet after bullet. Jack Ward was very good as well with by far the most 2nd place finishes. Nobody was more shocked than I was to NOT hear my name called for 4th place. Instead it was Jon Luscomb who I beat by just one point only after Jon got entangled in one of the last races. If not for that, Jon was easily ahead of me by about 12 points. Sad how one small foul can take you out of it. Dave Linville took home the 5th place trophy. They were really cool trophies by Ricky Gerry. You need to see the photos of them when they are posted.

All three ladies made it into the A-fleet several time each and in one race, they were all present. Judy Clarke proved to be the lady to watch out for. She is really improving with every regatta. Liz, Brenda and Judy will all be sailing at Nationals in a few weeks and I will not be surprised to see them up in A-fleet from time to time.

Great job to everyone at the Villages and thanks for the insulated mugs that everyone got to take home. Very cool.

Link to the local news at The Villages with a report on the regatta. The reported got a few of the names spelled wrong, but it is nice to be in the media.

Joe summed it up nicely-a great Regatta weekend. The Friday night party hosted by Alan & Liz and supported by many members of their club was super. It gave us a chance to get to know new skippers as well as chat with old friends. Thanks again for a great weekend. And now that the wind gods are smiling on Ashland Pond, the days of the doldrums are past, I hope. This sets the bar up high for regattas in the Florida Series.
