Day 2 Report

Day two began under threatening skies and moderate “B” Rig winds. As predicted by Race Director, Ken Miller, the impending storm split and went around us bringing only a very light rain shower which conveniently took place during the lunch break. The winds , however, were not as cooperative reducing steadily throughout the day with numerous course changes required. Racing was suspended after Race #29 in near drifting conditions.
Day 1 leader Sean Fidler managed to open a small margin over Alan Perkins with Dave Ramos closing in from third. Dave Brawner had a very steady day in fourth. Ted Flack remained in fifth. A close battle for sixth continued between Ken Shaw and Bernie Pepin.
Rounding out the top ten were Liz Perkins, Gary Bugden from Nova Scotia and Jeff Fullerton from London, Ontario.
Tomorrow’s forecast calls for 15 mph winds gusting to 28 mph with rain. This should prove to make a most interesting end to the Regatta.

Day 3 and Morgan Black Canada 2015 Wrapup

Rainfall blanketed the area overnight and several showers occurred prior to the Day Three start time. Racing commenced on time under heavy gray skies and sporadic light rain was experienced through the morning. Winds were 12/15 from the SW. “B” Rigs were popular.
Nine races were concluded prior to the 12 Noon deadline, with the top two boats trading first and seconds. The penultimate race began with the leaders tied. At the conclusion of Race 38 Sean Fidler had won the Morgan Black Canada 2015 regatta with a 2 point margin. Fidler and second place Alan Perkins gathered 26 bullets between them of the 32 races scored.
Third and fourth went to the two Dave’s , first Ramos, then Brawner.
Ted Flack continued his impressive regatta holding on to fifth place handily over Ken Shaw and Bernie Pepin, who not only raced well but shared organizational duties for this regatta.
Our intrepid lady sailor, Liz Perkins , edged Bob “Bouts” Boutilier by one point for eighth. Jeff Fullerton, our London, Ontario entrant finished tenth.
The balance of the fleet, Kavaney, Bugden, Vella ( who apparently won the previous evenings’ go cart enduro) Jim Goddard, Fred Hall ( in his first regatta) and Ken Peltier all added immeasurably to the success of this event. The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all was extraordinary.
Closing banquet remarks by Commodore Terry Desjardins , again thanked the competitors, the Windsor Model Yacht Club volunteers ,as well as Mayor Ken Antaya of the Town of LaSalle who provided a fabulous venue at the Volmer Recreational facility pond and amphitheatre.
The Awards were presented by Event Chairman & Race Director , Ken Miller, and the Morgan Black Canada 2015 Regatta is now history.

Thank you to the entire Windsor Model Yacht Club for hosting the Morgan-Black. It was a great pleasure to take part in your event. The amount of time and effort you took to prepare and put on this regatta was quite evident and quite amazing. Congratulations to both Sean and Alan on their spectacular performances. I can only tell you the color of their transoms as that's all I saw all weekend. Sounds like both Sean and Ted are heading to St. Augustine. Warm up the go carts boys.

After seeing how Vella races go carts, I now know where he gets his sailing skills....eh!
