Hi Guys,

Sorry to be lax in posting announcements for this event...

The location of the Nor'Easter has been traditionally at FT Adams in Newport RI. Due to the Volvo Ocean Race making this its stop over location this time around, FT Adams was not an option for us this year. We initially planned to move the event to Marblehead but the response from the skippers was pretty clear. They wanted an open water venue like Newport and I had to agree with them so the search began for a similar location. We looked at a number of spots but each had their own unique challenges and requirements that if we planned to make a permanent change, might have been worth the effort but the plan is to return to Newport in 2016 so none of these locations seemed to work. As the clock wound down on choosing a venue, we elected to make this simple and go with a venue that we all knew and would easily accommodate us for this event. Venutis Pond in Killingworth CT was our place.

Due to the late pick, I chose to email the skippers who I knew were likely sailors directly with the NOR and entry information and why both Tom and Joe posted here in my place. THANKS Guys!

So, we held the event last weekend and we had 12 skippers. The forecast was for very light winds both days with no real direction. When we arrived at the pond Saturday morning, the light winds were doing exactly as forecast. Easterly with huge 180 degree shifts with no settled direction made it nearly impossible to set a course. So... we went with a tried and true ancient mariner technique and announced to the wind gods that our plans were to set a course on the opposite shore. Instead, we set the course in our normal location and as soon as we dropped the last mark, the wind filled in out of the North. Hahaha.

We were able to sail 21 races over the course of both days in perfect conditions. The breeze was still shifting a fair bit and made the starts a bit tricky with a heavy port end favored starts. None the less, the fleet found its way through two days of exceptional sailing with very few altercations at all. The shifts were very manageable and made for some very tactical, well executed beats and runs with several lead changes due to skill and not simple pond conditions.

Saturday night we met at the Red House Restaurant in Deep River where following our meal, we were treated to the sounds of the band that worked that night playing Led Zeppelin covers (they were quite good) and the place morphed from a restaurant to a concert hall and it was great.

So after 21 races completed with three discards, the final scores looked like this...

1 Chuck Luscomb 25pts
2 Al Dion 67pts
3 Kevin MacLellan 76pts
4 Eddie Wolfe 80pts
5 Brian Kerrigan 81pts
6 Bob Shluger 85pts
7 Brian Jobson 89pts
8 Jon Pelley 100pts
9 Ron Rhault 116pts
10 Tim Stone 140pts
11 Jack Baldwin 160pts
12 Bill Dempsey 200pts

Thank you to everyone who joined us. It was a pleasure to sail with you all again.

Special thanks to Bill Dempsey for organizing the use of the pond, the porta pot and the crash boat.

See you all in Stowe!
