Pour Party 2015

Can an EC12 be built in a day?

This year, we are trying to see if UPS delivered all the parts for an EC12 on a Saturday morning, could we have it sailing Sunday morning? Skip Hall will be bringing all his parts that morning and we'll see what happens.

The hull, deck and hardware team will be led by Dave Ramos. Mark Rinehart is leading the electronics assembly team. And, I will lead the rig building group. This could be very interesting. I hope you'll join us.

Oh Boy. This is the kind of event that highlights the EC12 and the progressive promotions of the model. This supports the charter to class leadership to promote RC sailing for the AMYA and our class members. Merrilee and I have scheduled travel beginning on the 22nd. I wish I could see this major event unfold ( in person) for these goals I have always supported.

My compliments, David. Please document and publish a unique goal.

With the boat building talent they will have at this Pour Party, the only hold up in completing their task will be waiting for the glue to dry.

And with the new hull registry procedure this boat will be "Good to GO" as soon as she is measured in.

For anyone that can't make it the Pour Party and has nothing better to do tomorrow, there will be three live webcams going. Each camera will also be recording a time lapse video throughout the day. Nothing will be live until Saturday.

Cam_1 is the Main Shop
Cam_2 is the Small Shop
Cam_3 is the Lead Pot

The website is http://www.brawner.net

The live video link is at the bottom of the page below the picture. Note the username and password before clicking the button.

This system is testing the limit of the bandwidth at my house. It will be interesting to see if this holds up. If not, the image on the brawner.net still updates every 6 seconds.

I am on the road with family this weekend. I just checked out the webcams. I am very excited about this project and wish I could be there with you guys. It will be hard to follow on my iPhone, especially while sightseeing, but I will do my best. I just hope I don't walk into a light pole.

Good luck to you all on completing this one-day build. This is going to be a great artical in Model Yachting magazine too.

Well, the answer is going to be YES. An EC12 can be built in a day. The boat team has the deck on, the electronics team has completed the radio board and the rig team is ready for final fit.

The deck will be shaped in the morning and then the rig will go on before our 11am deadline.

We were getting some wonderful comments from around the world until the shear volume of traffic crashed the video server.

It was a great day followed by a great get together with a lot of my friends roasting me including a surprise appearance by Joe Walter and family. A more complete report will follow when I catch my breath. Thanks to all that attended.

What a fun time I had at the David Brawner Roast and Toast last night. So glad I was able to get up here to celebrate with all the rest. Lisa made the event very memorable. Can't wait to get home to view the time laps videos of the boat build.

Thank you Dave Branning for including me in the invite.

It's all about the boat, 'bout the boat, not Brawner... Damn you Dave for putting that song in my head.

I'd like to Thank Everyone that was involved with the build!! To have five National Champions building the boat was such a sight to behold… Also a BIG Thank You for everyone that assisted with each part, rigging, electronics and boat building!!!

After it was finished we named the boat Rome, because unlike Rome This was built in one day…..

And they worked for food! :o

Although I did not have a hand in the build, I watched and learned new boat building techniques. It was a very educational day.

No shame on the Romans. They didn't have the talent and manpower (statistically) that this project enjoyed. Wish I could have been there. Really a remarkable accomplishment. High fives all around.

Mike,
The official answer is NO, she did not go swimming.

The boat was ready. The crew was a bit too ragged that morning recovering from the night before. A nap had higher priority than a shakedown cruise.

I can't wait to see if that 3D printed gooseneck/vang assembly holds up.
