Important notice if you are planning to attend The Jacksonville Model Yacht Club's EC-12 Regatta in Apr 26/27 at St. Augustine

The Confort Suits Hotel at the World Golf Village is the location of the St. Augstine EC-12 Regatta . Currently there are only 7 Rooms booked and the hold date is fast approaching in 9 days which is Apr 11. The hotel informed me that they will not extend the hold as there are many requests for reservations for the Apr 26/27 week-end.

Also some folks asked about providing a room to leave our boats rigged overnight as we have done in the past. Please note that the cost has gone up for this which is $100/night
The Hotel will agree to a 50% discount if there are 20 Rooms booked . Currently there are only 7 rooms booked and at the EC-12 Regionals last year i.e we had 17 rooms booked.
If all skippers attending agree to split the cost of the room then it may work out reasonable between $5- $10 each or less depending on final numbers and # of rooms booked.

Looking forward to a fun and friendly regatta as we are expecting a big turn-out for this final regatta of the season in St. Augustine.

Please also note that if there are 3 or more ladies entered there will be a 1st Place ladies prize......so to-date two ladies are entered...see list of entries.

More later,

Martin

Only 7 days left to book your room at the Comfort Suits Hotel in ST. Augustine.

Please do not loose out on this offer if you are planning to join us at The Jacksonville Model Yacht Club's EC-12 Regatta in St. Augustine on Apr 26/27th. The cut-off date to hold the rooms is Apr 11th and Elizabeth ( Booking Manager) informs me that there is a lot of requests for rooms for the Apr 26/27th week-end so the rooms will go quickly.

Preparations are well underway for the Apr 26/27 event and we hope you will all come and have a wonderful and enjoyable time.

We will sail our monthly EC-12 Club Points Regatta on the Sat Apr 19th at the Comfort Suits at St. Augustine starting at 1:30pm sharp. This gives us a chance to check if the trees need pruning and to put the launching Ramps and rescue boat in place etc.. Our Club Points regatta is usually 4 x 3 Heats making a total of 12 heats . All non members with an EC-12 wishing to test the waters in St. Augustine are welcome to join us on Apr 19th.

Please remind your fellow EC-12ers to book their lodging ASAP and take advantage of the best rate.

See you all real soon,

Martin

I would love to be there, but we have a wedding south of Miami. For what this wedding is costing us to attend, I could get two new sets of sails! Will be thinking of you all. Good luck and fair winds. Be there next year. Capt. Judy

Well done Jon........you are not the last to enter....so we are now up to a respectable 25 Boat fleet........Thank you to all that registered.

Dick Hedderick will use his mathematical skills and the latest version of the National Seeding List to produce the order for the starting fleets.

This allows us the opportunity to begin the regatta from the first B Fleet race and score all races.

Looking forward to a fun and friendly regatta both at and off the pond.

Conflicting forecasts. Which always change, but looks like great sailing- but may be HOT. Glad we have all those trees to sit under.

The weather continues to look great for the Jax regatta. Wind is predicted at 4-8 and temps 75-85. Just about perfect A rig conditions! The site is a great place to sail. There was a last minute entry bringing the total skipper count to 27. The updated fleet list can be found at the Florida EC-12 site by clicking on the following Link:

See you all there!

Great day of racing in St. Augustine. I think we got in 9 races of P&R with 15 boats on the line for each heat. Alan Perkins was on fire with less than half the points of second place Steve Pfeil. I am close behind Steve in third and Dick Hedderick is just one point back in 4th. There is a bunch of boats in the mix including Doc Greer, Gerhard Kelter, Scott Vernon, Ricky Gerry, Fred Pfeil and others, but I can't remember the order without the score sheet in front of me. We will post the full results after today's racing.

We packed the house at Donovan's Irish Pup last night. They set up tables for 30, but we had over 40 show up to help celebrate the birthdays of John Bottensek and my daughter Mary Michael. You could see on the faces of the staff they were not expecting the big crowd, but they did a great job of moving in more tables and chairs and getting everyone served as fast as they could. I got a birthday cake for John and Mary Michael and we had to make the slices a little small for everyone to get a piece.

From what I heard, the partying continued in the hotel bar. I think Steve Pfeil was trying to get Perkins drunk to hinder his sailing today, but it backfired on him.

Martin and Trish Gray along with their crew have done a great job running the regatta so far. I am off to the lake now for the final day of racing in what promises to be Chamber weather. More results later.

Today proved to be a real challenge for the skippers and the race staff. The wind was out of the South which meant it had to go around and over the 6 story hotel to get down to the lake. With this boomerang shaped lake, it meant we had light and swirling winds coming from two main directions. Martin Gray did the best he could to give us a good course. Changing sides of the lake several times to try and make it work. In the end, it finally settled in to a great breeze out of the North East after we were all packed up.

Ken Morrison had one last protest to hear after the final race. It was between me and Dick Hedderick and it was not an easy one to rule on. I took the heat for causing the award ceremony to be delayed. In the end, I won the protest, but it did not change the final results. The learning experience was important though.

Nobody was UNeffected by the day's challenges. Positions were changing throughout the fleet with every race. But Alan Perkins was able to hold on to his lead for the win. Dick Hedderick (despite his last race DSQ) leapfrogged over both me and Steve Pfeil to take third. Steve, who had dropped into the clutches of the B-fleet, managed to claw his way back to move back in front of me by just one point for 3rd and Gerhard Kelter took home the 5th place trophy.

A big thank you to Martin and Trish and all the helpers this week. You all did a fantastic job with the event. I am sure Martin will have the full results posted here soon.

Sadly, this might have been our last regatta at this venue. The news came out this weekend that the hotel was being turned into an assisted living facility. Not sure if it is a final deal yet, but we do know they are not taking any event reservations for next year. The location for the 2015 NCR will need to be looked at and I will keep you all posted.

Martin, well done under very TRIYING conditions. You, Trish and Robbie Susan (hope I got that right?) did a fantastic job. Enjoyed the sailing, the dinner Sat night, great pub food.

BTW if you A sailors drop down to the "clutches" sailing in B fleet we try just as hard doing our best to get to sail with the A fleet. Why not !
