Postby daramos » Sun Jul 23, 2023 12:39 pm

Friday Aug 25 before the EC12 Annapolis regatta we will be holding the Down the River Race at Cedar Point Marina.
For those of you not familiar with the Down the River Races in the past it is a ruffly a 3 hour distance race which each J boat having it it’s own chase / support boat. Everyone on the chase boat can participate in tactics, drive and support their J boat so we are also looking for support personal for the registered boats.
So come early for the EC12 regatta and join the fun.

The 2023 Down the River Race out of Cedar Point Marina was a huge sucess. Our host Rick Boulay and Cedar Point Marina really pulled out all the stops and provided seven Boston Whalers to six of the out of town skippers and drivers. Rick was on his beutiful Whaler was the RD boat as was Judy Bonanno "Head Chick In Charge". THe winch came out of the south-wsest which shifted to the south as the race progressed turing the course into a bit of a fetch as we sailed West towards Hog Island. The trick was to pinch up and round the island in the cockwise direction than pinch back up as we headed back east. Two intrepid skippers a little bit behind tried something diferent and rounded Hog island counter clockwise to the north only to find that they had a beat to winward on the west side of the island. The broud reach coming back closed the distance to the other racers but the damage was done. AlexhRamos with Dad David Ramos driving the whaler and thier Shamrick V got a great start and rouded the course shole marker and extended thier lead to the west followed by Brian Kerrigan in his Ranger and Mark Flickenstine in his Shamroick V close behind.
As the skipper traveled back East and the boats reached down the course Brian slowly reeled in team Ramos team but ran out of couse before he could catch them at the finish. with a lot of reaching we decisede to run some short course racing for fun off the long T Dock and everyone had a ball as we tweeked and traded boats to get an idea of how the diferent designs peorformaed.
thanks agian to Rick Boulay and Cedar point Marina for the great hospitality.
