2022 EC12 Region 3 Championship / Gone with the Wind Regatta

After a hiatus of two years due to COVID, the Atlanta Yacht Club was delighted to host this year’s regatta on a usually cold and windy weekend for early April. First came the gusts of wind creating ocean sized waves that dwarfed our model yachts; then came the sleet, then came the hail, followed by snow, and then came even more impressive gusts. We knew this was coming from the local weather forecasts and fortunately all the sailors were prepared for the low wind chill, including EC12 stalwart Joe Walter, who wore his winter shorts. Saturday was survival; Sunday was placid . . . a tale of contrasting conditions. Attendance was down this year; however, the competition was not as Joe Walter exhibited his talents and earned the title as our new 2022 Region 3 Champion. The conditions were challenging; however, there were no collisions and the few penalties that occurred were handled promptly on the water. Everyone sailed as Corinthians. Editor’s note: Our photographers remained indoors on Saturday.
