Skippers,
Thank you for registering for the Heat is On! the one day regatta on July 10th
This note is to provide you a general outline of the Heat is On, EC12 Regatta Experience to be raced at the Reeds Canal Pond at 919 Reed Canal Rd in South Daytona FL 32119. We also want to hear from you about your expectations for the regatta.
The Heat is On! is going to be unique, not only is it a regatta but it will also be a great time to learn about setting up our boats and race tactics.
Currently we have over 20 skippers who have indicated they were sailing in the Heat is On!! and want to learn more about being competitive in the class.
Our plan is to blend an EC12 learning experience, with hands-on help from some of the best sailors in Florida and a regatta to help skippers get ready for the NCR at the Villages FL, later this year on November 11-13!

Here's the race day plan.

9:30-10:00 am
Registration
Pay your $10.00 for lunch.
Setting up course
Getting acquainted
10:00-10:30 am
Getting your boat ready for a regatta. A discussion led by Alan Perkins, Jon Luscomb and Joe Walter on how to get your boat ready to sail in a regatta.
Discussion will include where to get the boat measured and certified,
Initial boat setup
Tuning the boat for wind conditions
10:30am -1:00 pm
Coaching and Hands-on help- including sailing, Designated coaches will assist skippers in setting up the boats, sailing pointers, This time is dedicated to learn from others about EC12 boat handling, trimming and some racing tactics. Countdown timers will be available for practice starts.
Lunch sandwiches will be served during this segment.
1:00 Fleet Racing
Format
First race will be experienced skippers sailing boats with observers, next race roles will reverse.
The 3rd & 4th race will be a seeding race.
Remaining races will be A-B relegated fleet races with the RD explaining the participation process. We hope to stop racing at 4:00. Since this regatta does not count toward championship status we will be flexible to ensure skippers needs are met and we have fun!

We want to hear from you!
Please respond to this email and let us know whether you are interested in being paired with an experienced skipper or if you would like to coach another skipper.
Let us know if there are other things you want us to cover during the regatta
To make this event work, we need to hear from you so please reply to this email with any question or suggestions!
Once again, thank you for your participation and I look forward to seeing you on July 10th!

Fair Winds

George Balaschak
Florida EC12 Association President
