Roar at The Shore 6

Postby Skip Hall » Tue Apr 13, 2021 4:00 pm

Our sixth annual Roar at The Shore is quickly approaching, scheduled as a one day regatta once again. Coming on the heels of a very well attended and sailed Liberty Bell Regatta. We're hoping it will be as well attended and sailed also. Our lake is just one block off the ocean in beautiful Spring Lake,NJ!! Come and enjoy all the Jersey Shore has to offer, it's the unofficial start of the Spring/Summer season. Listed below is the notice of race, wanted to point out a couple of mistakes, the RRS 2017-2020 should be the current one- 2021-2024 and it's a one day regatta, not a two day regatta. At this moment we have three skippers registered, we know we'll have plenty more to register...
It's listed on the AMYA site, however the site is down at this time for software upgrades. We're hoping it'll be posted on the EC12.org sailing schedule also.

ROAR AT THE SHORE EC12 REGATTA, May 15, 2021

Hurray! Spring has finally sprung in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Thirteen mask-less skippers were graced with bright sunshine, temperatures in the mid 70’s and a freshening 5-10 Easterly all day. It was special to finally see people’s smiles. A block from the Atlantic Ocean, Divine Park is a beautiful venue and is the home of AMYA’s Fleet #219: Spring Lake Marbleheaders MYC. Skip Hall and his team of Michelle Sysyn, Jerry Franko, Harry Mote, Judy and Domenick Bonanno and, especially Skip’s wife, Karen, were the regatta team who made us feel special as visitors.

Winning his first ever RC regatta on an unfamiliar lake, Eddie Wolfe, from Swampscott, Mass, showed the way with boat speed and sharp tactical race decisions. At one point Eddie reeled off six firsts in a row. He was pushed, however, as Jamey Betz kept it close all day finishing second to Eddie by 4 points. At the end of the day, Eddie had won nine of the 19 races and threw in five 2nds to boot. Jamey added seven firsts and five seconds to his line score. Local top skipper, Harry Mote, finished strong in third place. Fourth place, Brian Kerrigan, from Essex, CT, added a bullet as well as Annapolis, MD’s, Scott Graf, in fifth. Places third through fifth we separated by only five points.

We welcomed back to the fleet, June Pendino, with her new EC12. Years ago, June helped Dave Brawner build her first EC12 in his shop. What a great memory that must be. Welcome to Rick Halajain, from Howell NJ, sailing in his first ever regatta.

Judy Bonanno, EC12 Class Photographer, was able to capture the day in pictures. Enjoy:
