____________________2019 EC12 Class NCR______________________________
The 2019 EC12 National Regatta was hosted by the Stowe Yacht Club in Stowe, Vermont on September 12th thru the 14th. Stowe has the reputation for light and variable winds. This year, the winds gods blessed the venue with better than average winds for all three days. The regatta started out with starts from the South end of the pond with moderate shifty winds. The two following days, we were able to start at our more normal, North end starting line, with steadier, to quite gusty winds. For the first time, I saw a “B” rig in Stowe although it was for only one race. Thanks Alex. Twenty-seven competitors started the regatta under the supervision of Race Director Bruce Nourjian. The format was promotion-relegation with sixteen boats on the line in the “A” fleet.
Lunches for all days was provided by the Commodores Inn with an awards banquet Saturday evening. At the banquet, Class Secretary Joe Walter held a raffle with items such as an EC12 hull and deck, an additional deck, lead, launchers and several gift certificates. Dave Ramos introduced and presented the first, annual, Dave Brawner “Spirit of Sailing” award. This award is given to sailor who best exemplifies Dave’s spirit on and off the water as voted by fellow sailors and race committee members. This year, the award was presented to Chuck Luscomb.
Award plaques were handed out for the first five finishers. Peter Feldman was the steady competitor reading the wind, better then all, finishing in first. Second and third was a family affair with Dave Ramos and Alex Ramos finishing second and third respectively. In fourth place was Chuck Millican and in fifth was Chuck Luscomb.
Between the weather and the hard work by volunteers, Race Committee, the Inn staff, and the effort of fellow competitors to “Sail Like 53”, this was a great regatta and one to remember. For a complete regatta scores and a link for photos by Judy, go to our web site: https://stoweyachtclub.com/
