Things to bring to FYBOR:
1. Warm clothes
2. snow shovel
3. Gloves (in case of snow ball fight)
4. A smile
5. Your boat

This is probably the most fun, relaxed regatta around. Enjoy racing for the "Cup", I'll be cheering you guys on from the UK.

With just two days to the registration deadline, the long range weather forecast seems to indicate that the pond should still be in a liquid state for the regatta. Keep your fingers crossed.

Mother Nature once again proved she has a sense of humor. Our 24 four boat regatta was provided with a beautiful Spring like 70 degree day in mid-December.....with absolutely no breeze.

Uh-oh. Welcome to the Global Warming Regatta?

The race committee was quickly formulating a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition to award the perpetual trophy because it's so ugly that we certainly didn't want to take it home. After an impromptu sailing seminar given by Jamey Betz, Dave Ramos and Mark Rinehart, we set a course and crossed our fingers. Thanks to the incredible skill and unending patience of the entire fleet, everyone was able to compete in/endure four races using Over/Under heat management and one massive full fleet start.

Every year I can put the same words about the great effort that Nick Mortgu puts into this regatta. He is the reason that this report is about a 24 boat fleet, not 4. Thank you!! In past years, Nick has provided the skippers with FYBOR knit caps and FYBOR scarfs. Working towards a complete ensemble the skippers were given FYBOR gloves this year. Fybor socks can't be too far down the list now.

There was no way in these conditions that this event could be about the competition. More so, it was a celebration to end our sailing season with laughter and smiles filling in where the wind wouldn't. The mix of skippers was a perfect blend of the usual suspects, newbies and friends we hadn't seen in a while. Despite the lack of wind, I have the feeling that most of these knuckleheads would do it all over again tomorrow in the same conditions if given the chance.

The skippers devoured Nick and Beth's delicious chili and Lisa's Christmas cookies.

Race Committee: Nick Mortgu, Dave Branning (freshly out of back surgery) and myself.

Race Report: Dave Ramos won and had to take home that "trophy". Everyone got a selection off Nick's swag table in reverse finishing position. We went home happy. The end. :D

Well, this years FYBOR turned out to be a race committee's nightmare - 24 skippers and no wind!! What are we going to do?? Well, Dave, Nick and Dave rescued the day with a session of valuable tips from the experts, a delicious chili lunch from Nick and Beth with cookies from Lisa, and a few light air (sorry, I mean no air) races with some imaginative course setting by the race committee. The array of great awards from Nick for every skipper was also much appreciated. The whole day was really an ideal opportunity to socialize with fellow skippers rather than engage in "serious" sailboat racing, and for that it was a huge success. Thanks guys. Ivor
