The 2015 edition of the Annapolis EC12 Regatta day one was a fantastic day of EC12 racing. Fifty five to sixty degrees , partly sunny with Northwest winds in the range of high A sail and no marks had to be moved. Not only were the winds true for windward mark choices but occasional shifts made the tacking duels at the top a thrill to watch. Scott Graf stepped up to run the show as RD and, with a bad back, Branning sat his butt in a camp chair most of the day keeping score. I hated it. A few national championships have been collected by the top four with DT chalking up 9 firsts out of 15 races sailed. Don Barker, who has not sailed much of late, kept them honest all day. Don Barker, Dave Ramos, David Brawner and Mark Rinehart recorded the other race wins. How good Danny performed was evidenced by one tangle with Mark Rinehart. Mark was the burdened boat but both could not finish the race. Danny got redress and his previous 5 races were 1,1,1,1,3 for a redress score of 1.4 for that race. Fantastic. Dave Littleton competed with the only B sail all day and did well. A bunch adjourned to a Kent Island watering hole on the way home to just share stories. It was a fun day all around. For our buddies who missed the event, "you missed a fun day."
Oh, big thanks to Jim Flach who took a break for the last four races to put that great camera into play. You'll see some of his work early next week.
Here's the standings after 15 with no throwouts.

Skipper Pts
1 Danny Thomas 34.4
2 David Brawner 44
3 David Ramos 46
4 Mark Rinehart 63
5 Don Barker 66
6 Dave Littleton 120
7 Jim Flach 124
8 Skip Hall 124
9 Tim Stone 124
10 Roger Baldwin 132
11 Chris Bock 146
12 Norm Watkins 152

If you missed both yesterday and today you missed a terrific Fall classic regatta at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. More of the same fresh winds out of the NW made the regatta one of the best two days of sailing this year in the Colonial Cup. Defending Annapolis Regatta Champion, Danny Thomas carved out seven more firsts today to distance himself from Dave Ramos and David Brawner. Under normal circumstances, the two Daves had a great day. Unfortunately, Danny was just that much better, hitting the shifts, pointing high and just sailing clean and fast all around the course. Actually as a spectator, watching the top three sail against each other was quite entertaining and certainly a clinic in EC12 skills. Mark Rinehart stopped by for brunch looking like the Cheshire Cat and valiantly tried to hold off Don Barker for the last six heats. Don reeled off a bunch of 3rds and 4ths to move into fourth. We were glad to host Tim Stone who visited from Vermont and left with a dozen crab cakes, his normal Chesapeake Bay luxury when in our area.
Thanks to Scott Graf who gave up sailing to run the regatta, serve the lunch, provide the coffee and cakes as well as chase a couple of boats. Thanks to Dave Ramos and his Boston Whaler for mark placement and pick-up. Next Stop...St Augustine. Danny, Dave and Dave and Mark will be bringing their A games. [8D]

I want to throw my thanks out to Dave Branning as well for assisting all weekend, chair bound or not. It was a fantastic event and all the competitors played pretty nicely. I had a great time as the RD slash "designated driver" where I get to experience all the banter and camaraderie, and never have to call protest.

Thanks again to all the competitors who made my job relatively easy, Dave Branning and Dave Ramos for lending the boat and creating two perfect race courses.

As promised, the Jim Flach photos or the 2015 Annapolis Regatta are here. Visitors will not only appreciate the quality of his work but the venue and the perfect conditions are captured. Thanks, Jim.

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend of EC12 racing. Sandy Point is a great venue. The weather was just right, Cool and lots of wind. Many thanks to David R. for helping me with sail tuning.
Jim Flach and I tangled on Sunday in a Port Starboard and as a result my rig went down. Even though his boat was fine, he stayed out and assisted me getting my boat back together and back on the water.
Jim showed true Sportsmanship and I really appreciated it. This is just one of the reasons I enjoy sailing with this group so much.
David Branning was able to pick up some Crab Cakes for me to bring back home, and as usual David they are Delicious.

Good luck to the gang going to St Augustine. See everyone soon.
