If you missed both yesterday and today you missed a terrific Fall classic regatta at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. More of the same fresh winds out of the NW made the regatta one of the best two days of sailing this year in the Colonial Cup. Defending Annapolis Regatta Champion, Danny Thomas carved out seven more firsts today to distance himself from Dave Ramos and David Brawner. Under normal circumstances, the two Daves had a great day. Unfortunately, Danny was just that much better, hitting the shifts, pointing high and just sailing clean and fast all around the course. Actually as a spectator, watching the top three sail against each other was quite entertaining and certainly a clinic in EC12 skills. Mark Rinehart stopped by for brunch looking like the Cheshire Cat and valiantly tried to hold off Don Barker for the last six heats. Don reeled off a bunch of 3rds and 4ths to move into fourth. We were glad to host Tim Stone who visited from Vermont and left with a dozen crab cakes, his normal Chesapeake Bay luxury when in our area.
Thanks to Scott Graf who gave up sailing to run the regatta, serve the lunch, provide the coffee and cakes as well as chase a couple of boats. Thanks to Dave Ramos and his Boston Whaler for mark placement and pick-up. Next Stop...St Augustine. Danny, Dave and Dave and Mark will be bringing their A games.
