2015 Colonial Cup Regattas

Postby Dave_Branning » Tue Mar 31, 2015 1:46 pm

The schedule for the 2015 Colonial Cup is now set and we are one regatta in the bank. The 43rd Annual Liberty Bell Regatta was just completed on March 28/29. Detailed Results and pictures are available on the Liberty Bell Discussion topic.
For 2015 we will have the five regattas listed below as events for the Colonial Cup and you will count your best four. The top five from the Colonial Cup go to the Champions Regatta for the Sir Francis of Graham Trophy. The good news for Colonial skippers is we get to send 6 as Danny Thomas, defending champion, is an automatic qualifier. They will be joined by three other groups of 5 qualifiers each from New England, Florida and the Dixie area in March 2016. Historically, the Champions Regatta is held in Charleston in March.

Here are the 5 Colonial Cup Regattas:

March 28/29- Liberty Bell Regatta
May 16/17- Spring Lake, NJ (new regatta in 2015) This is the R2 Championship NOR and Reg is available on Regatta Calendar page
August 8/9- Mystic, CT Regatta (this is the R1 Championship
Sept 10/11- Tilghman Regatta (this is part of the Tilghman Trifecta; RC Lasers on Wed the 9th; EC12's on Thurs/Fri; Star 45 NCR on Sat/Sun). NOR and Reg is available for all Tilghman events on the Regatta Calendar page
Oct 17/18- Annapolis Regatta

Here's the undefeated in 2015, Danny Thomas:

We now have two regattas in the bank for the Colonial Cup for 2015. Last weekend we got a lesson from current National Champion, Jamey Betz, as he schooled us for two days at Spring Lake, NJ. Spring Lake, now affectionately named, the Roar at the Shore, joins the Region 2 EC12 regatta list and I'm sure it will become a staple in future years. The host club did a masterful job working the race management and delivered chamber of commerce weather. This inaugural event was also the R2 Championship. Way to go, Jamey.
With two Colonial Cup Regattas completed, here's the current top ten standings:
Full list with points at: http://ec12.org/Regattas/CRS/2015Colonial.htm

Danny Thomas
Dave Brawner
Dave Branning
Scott Graf
Harry Mote
Ken Shaw
Victor Oberg

Note: The next regatta on the Colonial Cup agenda is Mystic, CT the first weekend in August. See you there.

With Mystic's R1 Championship in the bank, we now have three legs of the 5 scheduled Colonial Cup regattas completed. That leaves the Tilghman Regatta, Sept 10-11 and the Annapolis Regatta October 17-18 to be held. The top skippers so far are in the chart below and at the conclusion of the series the top five plus defending Champ, Danny Thomas qualify for the Champions Regatta in March in Charleston. Moving up in the standings is Victor Oberg who, along with Branning, has raced in all of the first three Colonial events. Guys: It pays to show up...Show up and you move up.
See you in Tilghman.

As of this past weekend (9/13) we have concluded 4 legs of the five leg 2015 Colonial Cup Series. Danny Thomas, the Champions Regatta defending champion, just won the Tilghman Regatta and moved into a tie for first place in the standings. Dave Branning is hanging there tied with Danny with perfect attendance at all four scheduled events. Victor Oberg has sailed the four initial regattas and has a chance to move up as do Scott Graf and Dave Ramos. We have the Annapolis Regatta next month so we expect some pressure from others nipping at our heals. We count 4 of the 5 scheduled regattas. Here's the current standings and points:

Dave Branning, 68 pts
Danny Thomas, 68 pts
David Brawner, 64 pts
Harry Mote, 48 pts
Victor Oberg, 47 pts
Dave Ramos, 47 pts
Scott Graf, 45 pts
Skip Hall, 36 pts
Ken Shaw, 30 pts
Bob Shluger, 26 pts
