The 17th annual Sun City Regatta was held on November 8, 9 2014 at Lake Somerset in Sun City, South Carolina. Twenty one skippers entered the regatta which was the first Region 3 Regatta for this venue.
The two fleets completed 13 races ( 26 heats), with favorable winds from 5 to 10 both days.
Joe Walter emerged from his drought and dethroned two time defending Sun City Champion Alan Perkins for the win. Competition was tight with two tie totals in the top five positions.
Rivaling the racing were the social events, which included a catered barbecue on Saturday night as part of the entry fee. Thanks to RD Dale Smith to the many Sun City volunteers that made it happen.

What a fantastic time I had this weekend. Sun City is such a great event, mostly because of the party and the hospitality. They do the best they can to deal with wind. This weekend was mostly reaching and close beats with almost no tacks. Most the position changes happened around marks. The racing was clean and fun. and the staff were terrific. It came down to the last race to decide the winner. With the throwout factored in, I had a 2 point lead on Alan Perkins. He needed to be 3 places in front of me to take the win. At the start of the heat, I got fouled and slowed up enough for Alan to move out 5 places in front of me. It wasn't until the last windward rounding that I was able to sneak past three boats to close back up to 2 places back of Alan. We tied at 39 points and I won on the tie breaker. My heart is still pounding from the excitement...and fear.

Thanks again to everyone from Sun City and cheers to all my friends who willingly refilled my glass all night until I had to be dragged back to my room. The extra hour of sleep in the van at lake side helped. Glad nobody could find that air horn.

Great Regatta again to the old guys. You all are getting better each year.
Congratulations to my roommate on hanging on Sunday to claim the championship. Quite an accomplishment Joe, at 0130 hours Sunday morning in the shower I would have thought Jack had claimed you as a victim. But you were able to play hurt and survive. Impressive survival.

I learned a lot about what "Jack" does to you this weekend. Is it just coincidence that this article shows up today? http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/11/ ... =obnetwork :?
