From Regatta Chair Rita Fullick:

Are you planning to join us at the Gone With The Wind Regatta? If yes, please register no later than April 5th. If you are requesting a cabin to stay, we need your registration quickly.
We need some lead time to secure cabins and finalize meals.
We would love to have you sail with us !!!

Please send me your registration or give me a call to register ... we would love to have you !!

Scott Vernon stepped up to be RD for this regatta, his first. Let's give him a big fleet challange.

Spoiler alert
We will always remember and often think of Richard Gerry, the wonderful man and good friend of all who knew him. A tribute in 5 trophies, about 8 by 10, with a deep frame that will stand by itself. Hopefully this will offer incentive to anyone who is on the fence about coming to the regatta. I could not convince Susan to make all corner patches red. I believe this is the 2011 thru 2013 seasons livery for YRN 1796.

Great job Scott, that looks awesome. I thinks it's a nice tribute to a special man. Papa Dick put a nice nick in my boat last year at gone with the wind. Normally I would be pissed that my boat is dinged up, but I look at it and think of him and all the great friends I've made sailing the EC-12. I hope everyone can make the regatta.

Dick,

I am glad you asked. The current plan...

We will have 2 fleets and decide who is where for the start of the scoring races by using the current class seeding list and having one unscored heat (B fleet then A fleet). So everyone basically gets 2 B fleet races to move up into A fleet before the first scored A fleet race takes place. After this first round of races. the scored races will then begin.

19 competitors. 3 up and 3 down. So the races should each be among 11 boats.

First unscored race – lower seeds
Jack Shepard
Tom Evans
Ken Williams
Chuck Ellis
Lew English
Skip Allen
John Muhlhausen
Bob Larsen
Bill Tumblin
Jamie Campeau
Martin VanWolswinkel 3 boats get promoted

Second unscored race – higher seeds plus 3 who are promoted from the first race
David Linville
Rick West
Tom Phillips
Tony Shoaf
Ian Elliott
George Balaschack
Mervin Jones
Dick Reinke 3 boats get eased into B fleet and then scored races begin

See you Friday for fun races starting as soon as I can get the marks set. I will wait 'til noon to get thru the gate. I (and other people) will help you launch and retrieve.

Scott, with all due respect, the National Seeding List works very well at placing skippers in a very fair representation of their skill levels. Not scoring the first race will have almost, if not completely, zero effect on the overall outcome of the regatta and simply waste one race on the weekend. It might be an important race to give that highly desired extra throw out. A throw out that will also serve to correct anything you are attempting to correct by not scoring the first heat.

I encourage you to just get the racing started utilizing the NSL as it was designed and score all the races. You will have a happier fleet of skippers in the end. They came to have their races scored, not to practice.

That said, I hope you have a fantastic event and fair weather. I wish everyone a great weekend and I look forward to seeing the results and the photos.

Another GREAT EC12 regatta !!!!!!!!!! Thanks Scott and crew for doing such a great job and thanks to the AYC for being great hosts. Congrats to Tony on his fist regatta win !!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait for the Red, White, and Blue regatta in July at the AYC.
Even though the wind a waves were unpredictable, the toughest part of the weekend was breathing and seeing thru the yellow cloud of pine pollen.

Rita Fullick and her AYC crew were top notch as always. Hats off to them. Wind was from about 3 or 4 points of the compass in every race. Every few minutes the wind chose a new direction - up the lake, down the lake, out of the cove to the east, out of the cove to the west, from across the lake or directly offshore.

16 races - 8 EORS Saturday - 8 single fleet on Sunday
1. Tony Shoaf - first regatta win
2. Dave Linville - one point out
3. Skip Allen - brand new ORANGE boat. I think he finished building it at the stoplights on the way over. Not a comment on the workmanship which is excellent. Just the time crunch. Very nice balsa deck. Hello, DHL?
4. Mervin Jones
5. Jack Shepard
6. Tom Phillips 94 points
7. Dick Reinke 96 points
8. George Balaschack 100 points These Florida guys like to stick together. And they gang up on the "boat boy."
9. John Muhlhausen
10. Lew English
11. Martin VanWolswinkel Only sailed 6 races
12. Tom Evans Got his first race win in a regatta by about half a lap. Congrats
13. Bill Tumlin
14. Bob Larsen
15. Ian Elliott Sailed Saturday only
16. Chuck Ellis
17. Ken Williams Sailed Saturday only
18. Jamie Campeau Only sailed about 5 races
