Skippers: We're ramping up for the 2013 edition of two regattas in three days on Tilghman Island, MD. While you are filling out your registrations for the two regattas for J Class Nationals and EC12's in Mystic in August, you can add Tilghman's two regattas to your schedule. The On Line Registration links are below for ease of use. The venue was a big hit the last two years and, since there are quite a few J Class yachts among the EC12 fleet, we are keeping the Friday J Class Regatta to proceed the 2 day Colonial Cup EC12 Region 2 Championship. We will go for a Crab/Seafood Feast on Saturday night so mark this one down and come on down to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake. Tilghman Island is 3 miles long and 1 mile wide and is 13 miles from St Michaels, MD. The venue is a little peninsula with YC and Marina area with pool in the community of Tilghman On Chesapeake that juts out into the Choptank River. Take a look at our community web site. http://www.tochesapeake.com

We have 270 degrees of open water with a floating dock and grassy frontage as vantage point choices depending upon the wind direction.

Here is the NOR, Sailing Instructions, link to on line reg and some local and up-the-road motels and bed and breakfast choices:

Ahoy, Mates: One month to go for two regattas on Tilghman Island, MD. The J Class regatta follows the Mystic, CT J National Championship, later this week. It is hoped that some of the National attendees will bring their J's (and EC12's) to Tilghman in early September.

Judy Skerry has agreed to be our PRO following her great job in 2012. Judy runs a tight ship and makes it a fun experience.

Awaiting the gang from Marblehead, Connecticut, Stowe, Virginia, the Carolinas, Florida.....
Awaiting the gang from Maryland Model YC- several came last year
Awaiting more from the other side of the bridge from Annapolis
Awaiting the gang from Mid Atlantic Model YC- we have a fresh water hose to wash off that brackish bay water from your boats....come on down to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake.
We have skipper gifts, lunches, a no host venue on the water for Saturday night's dinner, a brand new regional championship perpetual trophy to award and share from year to year. What shall we name it?
This regatta is one of the legs of the Colonial Cup, giving you points toward the Champions Regatta in March 2014.

See you in Mystic this week and, hopefully, Tilghman in a month.

We are a few days away from two fun regattas in Tilghman Island, MD. We have 6 J Class yachts registered with skippers from Maryland, Illinois, Florida and Wisconsin. Pretty diverse group road warriors. For the EC12 Region II Championship, we have 19 skippers from the above mentioned states plus Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. We may go from fleet racing to P/R depending upon whether we get last minute registrations. We welcome more.
The list is updated on the post above.

-Awaiting the gang from Maryland Model YC- several came last year
-Awaiting more from the other side of the bridge from Annapolis
-Awaiting the gang from Mid Atlantic Model YC- we have a fresh water hose to wash off that brackish bay water from your boats....come on down to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake.
-We have unique skipper gifts, healthy lunches, a no host waterfront venue for Saturday night's dinner, 3 prizes for the J Class event and 5 prizes for the EC12 Regatta.
-We have a locker room, swimming pool for the family and good long term weather, in the mid 70's, showing in the forecast.
Notes:
-I just returned from one of our award vendors and we have a new Region II Championship Perpetual Trophy...named The Chesapeake Cup. It is a pewter bowl sitting atop a custom made wood base. Who will be the first winner?
-When driving down route #33 toward Tilghman and St Michaels the speed limit changes drastically....pay attention to 35 mph and 25 mph....they mean it. :!: Drive carefully and enjoy the scenery.
If you get to the Tilghman On Chesapeake community there is a key pad entry for the gate to the Yacht Club....It is 2161....print this note. Or call my cell: 410-353-3637

With two days to go we added Ron Schloemer to the EC 12 Fleet so all J Class entries are also sailing the EC12 Regional Championships. Terrific. Lots of boat talk over three days together. We have 6 J's and 20 EC12's. And they are coming from far and wide....a great fleet. Sorry the team headed for Santa Barbara Nationals will not be here (good luck to you guys) and you Florida guys need to get out of the air conditioning and enjoy some of this wonderful early fall mid 70 degree weather going on here on the Chesapeake Bay. Weather looks perfect for the next ten days here and we welcome everyone to the Tilghman Regattas. I've been sampling the crabs this summer and they are not real big but they are plump and tasty.Yum!!

We will be using the class seeding list with 19 boats so we will start right in with a B Race on Saturday.

The J Class regatta, Friday, September 6th, has the following entries as of September 4th:

Skip Hall- HIs Shamrock was sailed by Bill Ewing in Mystic and won three races. Skip is giving it a go in Tilghman.
Gary Mueller
Jack Wubbe
Ron Schloemer
Danny Thomas
Dave Branning

Here's the EC12 Entries as of September 6th:
Skip Hall
Don Barker
Victor Oberg
Roger Baldwin
John Skerry
Mark Rinehart
Chris Bock
Dave Littleton
Mike Denest
Jack Wubbe
Danny Thomas
Gary Mueller
Doug Hutchinson
Roger Vaughan
Dave Branning
Jamie Betz

Day One at the Tilghman Regatta was completed for the J Class with six skippers competing under bright blue skies and fresh breezes. By the time we all got splashed the breeze and chop died down and we had 12 windward leeward courses with a break for lunch. Jack Wubbe, from Naples, FL, had seven firsts and 5 seconds to take the regatta handily by 12 points. Skip Hall sailed his new Shamrock for the first time (Bill Ewing sailed it in Mystic) and cobbled together a nice second place, sailing 9 races himself. Dave Branning, who never got to get his own Ranger going, sailed two bullets for Skip and Victor Oberg, under duress, sailed it for a third in race 11. So it was a team regatta second for Skip's Shamrock. Danny Thomas missed three races but finished two points behind Skip for third place. Thanks to Don Barker, Clare Barker, Elaine Hepkin, John Tochko and Jim Flach who did all the hard work of Race Committee, Chase boat, Lunch Crew and launch team. Tomorrow the EC12 Regionals.

Results:
Jack Wubbe 13
Skip Hall 25
Danny Thomas 27
Ron Schloemer 33
Gary Mueller 40
Dave Branning 79 started one race

The Tilghman Regatta for the EC12 Region 2 Championship for the Chesapeake Cup completed day one of racing for 18 skippers. Blue Skies, great temperatures but frustrating winds greeted PRO, Judy Skerry while Mark Rinehart providing the course management for buoy placement. It was quite light in the am so course management was a challenge. Jamey Betz, fresh from his Mystic win, opened the day with two bullets with Mark Rinehart following with a 5,2. Rinehart turned it on to make it close and won the next two with Betz going 3,2. Then, after lunch, breezes cooperated and freshened and all was well with the world. Jamey Betz then goes 2,1,2 and Rinehart goes 1,5,1. Very close at the top After racing over twenty of us went to the Tilghman On Chesapeake yacht club's upper party room and watched race one of the America's Cup. We looked for Dave Brawner, Dave Ramos, and Ken Shaw on a spectator boat but we could not find them. Where's Waldo?? We then adjourned to Dave and Elaine's house for AC Race #2 and some relaxing refreshments.
So at the end of day one here are the results without throw out, which will be 1 per 6 after the Sunday racing:

Jamey Betz 10
Mark Rinehart 15
Roger Vaughan 42
Don Barker 44
Victor Oberg 46
Jack Wubbe 50

What a great turnout! Hope to stop by tomorrow after lunch to say hello. Hopefully Annapolis can get that strong of a turnout next month. We'll actually be on the Eastern Shore sailing on a new lake for us! Jamie is really getting his EC12 figured out. Great to see!

Day two of the Tilghman Regatta and the Region 2 Championship also belonged to Jamey Betz. He had it dialed in since Saturday morning and the breezes were more of the same. Light in the morning and moving to the SW in the afternoon and freshening. We poured in 6 more races with the last two as fleet races. Mark Rinehart, 4 time National Champion, could not be with us on Sunday. Although missed in spirit, he was replaced in quality performance by Victor Oberg who surged into second place in the series with 5 top three finishes including two firsts today. Congratulations to Victor for his first EC12 Regatta podium finish. Don Barker, survived an opening race receiver failure on Saturday to respond nicely for a 3rd place in the regatta and some nice Sunday placings. Laser brats are getting better at this sloop rigged action. Jack Wubbe, traveling all the way from Naples, FL, finished 4th while Scott Graf finished 5th, 4 points behind Wubbe. Eighteen boats represented an increased showing over 2012 and many said they are looking forward to the Annapolis Regatta in mid October, also on the Maryland Eastern Shore on a private pond. Ernie and Amanda Freeland stopped by in Tilghman to give us a shout out and invite all to Queenstown, MD next month. Gary Mueller, through seven races, had a good regatta going but lost rudder contact and did not sail the last 5 races.

My thanks to all who traveled from some pretty remote points to be with us and you made the regatta special as we do not see you all as much as we like every year. We'll see some of you at Nationals as well as Race Week in 2014 in the mid-west. A very appreciative thanks to Judy Skerry who ran the start and finish show with results help by Kippy Requardt. I think that team went from finish of race 12 to prize awards in a record time. Thanks as well go to Jim Flach, Harry Henkel, John Tochko and Yank Brame for mark and rescue duty over three days, and Clare Barker and Elaine Hepkin for the lunches and also mark boat help during the J Class Regatta Friday.

Final Net Results for the EC12 Including 2 throwouts:

Jamey Betz 15
Victor Oberg 35
Don Barker 38
Jack Wubbe 67
Scott Graf 71
John Skerry 76
Roger Vaughan 77
Doug Hutchinson 81
Dave Branning 82
Mike Denest 85
Mark Rinehart 87
Gary Mueller 91
Rob Hill 100
Skip Hall 119
Roger Baldwin 120
Chris Bock 124
Ron Schloemer 131
Dave Littleton 150

Just wanted to say thanks to Dave and all his staff for a fantastic weekend. It's a great place to sail and having everyone stay Sat. and watch the Cup race was a real treat. Great group to sail with . Thanks for letting me have my day. Congrats to Victor and the rest. I think the cow spots will need to be replaced with Cheeta spots soon if he gets much faster!! Hope to see everyone on the water again soon.
