Mystic Race Week and J Class Nationals Early Note

Postby Chuck Luscomb » Mon May 13, 2013 8:01 pm

Hi All,

Just a notice that this year the Mystic River Radio Sailors will be hosting the J National Championships at Mystic Seaport on August 8th&9th. We have seen quite a turn out of J Boats in recent years and this years event should be in line with that trend. A number of New England EC12 Skippers have acquired J boats which I have to admit is no easy feat. We anticipate close to 20 boats this year which I expect will be a record for a J National event.

For those who may have never sailed one of these and are interested in joining the fleet, a couple of boats have come up for sale recently. Alan Kew has elected to offer up some of his fleet. Endeavor206 has been sold and Tim Stone of Essex VT. is now the proud owner. Still up for sale is Ranger#206-3 (his white boat that won the Nationals in 2008), His own personal Whirlwind 207 and Yankee #80. You can see photos of these boats as well as a couple of videos of Whirlwind and Ranger at Mystic Seaport in 2008. Here are a couple of links...

If your interested in any of these boats, please shoot me a PM. I would love to see all these boats at this years Nationals. Alan is asking a very reasonable price for each. $1500 each for Ranger and Whirlwind with $700 for Yankee.

Yes, the annual Mystic. There is so much history here for 19th Century commercial sailing and AMYA model sailing that you stand in awe overlooking the Mystic River from a historic site and a very interesting museum. The cooperation between numerous AMYA organizers is supported by the Seaport with a venue on the North Lawn specific for model sailing established John Snow and many other big names. This is carried forward by Chuck Luscomb to the Seaport wanting our class there every year in mid August.

It is an icon sailing venue for a well run event. Chuck, I will be there for weekend to sail the 12. I strive to make all these.
