The fleet lists for the Villages Regatta have been posted to the Florida EC-12 web site. We are still hoping for some last minute entries, including Reichard Kahle and Joe Walter. After having not been on the "Florida Winter Circuit" for awhile, we are pleased to see that Rick West, Bob Dudinsky, and Gerhard Kelter will be participating.
You may view the fleet lists by clicking on the following web address:

http://www.floridaec12.com/fleet-list-Vil.html

May 9th Update: Two more entries: Joe Walter added to Gold, Don Thompson added to Silver. This brings the total to 30 skippers. Looks like this will be the largest Florida Regatta on the Winter Circuit....Ya'll Come!

May 10th update: Frankie Novak added to Silver Fleet. Now 16 in Gold and 15 in Silver. Liz Perkins will have to make another Shepard's Pie for Friday night........

Day one at the Villages. Very light to rare puffs of 5 knots. lots of drifting at times. Hot. Great sailing by great people and lots of fun. Alan has done a great job as RD and we heard one protest which was actually a joke. As we were drifting around the leeward mark, a bird landed on the top of Jon Luscomb's mast and flapped its wings a few times. This helped propel Jon a couple of inches forward and several skippers protested for outside assistance.

The scores so far are as follows after one throw out:

Gold Fleet:
1 Baron Bremer 18
2 Ricky Gerry 27
3 Jon Luscomd 35
3 Gerhard Kelter 35
5 Joe Walter 45
5 Robert Greer 45
7 Jack Ward 50
8 Brenda Pardee 55
8 Rick West 55
10 Martin Gray 59
11 Tom Phillips 60
12 Bob Dudinsky 61
13 Dave Linville 63
13 Scott Vernon 63
15 Geroge Balaschak 95

Silver Fleet:
1 John Rowley 11
2 Ruben Caseres 27
3 Jim Merello 39
4 Dick Reinke 40
5 Becky Gerry 42
6 Jim Rutherford 43
7 Jim Pardee 44
8 Frankie Novak 46
9 John Santoro 55
9 Jim Kelly 55
11 Don Thompson 61
12 Judith Clarke 63
13 Allen McFarlane 78
14 Dan Pearce ( Dan is in the hospital with a heat injury and we wish him all the best. Doc Greer assessed the condition and made him go to the hospital and it turns out to be the right thing. Take care Dan and we will see you next regatta. God Bless!)

Wow, that was different. My apologies for crummy sailing but nice venue, good socials two nights with great club support. Thanks to Alan Perkins standing down and running a good regatta for 30 people. To Liz a job well done with a force of ladies support and organization and to Ken and Tom in the tent with a staff in waiting for all of us. Hosting day and night was excellent. Thank you all.

I am interested now to see what October will be like. May was strange an baffling air for me.

Great weekend at the Villages. Thanks Alan and company for an excellent event. You did the best anyone could do with what Mother Nature gave you. Sunday's "V" for Victory course was a lot of fun.

Top 4 in both fleets without scores, as I do not have them yet:
Gold Fleet
1 Baron Bremer
2 Jon Luscomb
3 Ricky Gerry
4 Bob Greer

Silver Fleet
1 John Rowley
2 Ruben Caseres
3 Dick Reinke
4 Frankie Novak

Special trophies for the ladies:
Brenda Pardee (Gold Fleet)
Becky Gerry (Silver Fleet)
Judith Clarke (Silver Fleet)

It is wonderful to see the ladies enjoying the sport/hobby. It was also great to see Laura Novak back on the shore this weekend, even if she wasn't sailing. We all look forward to her return to sailing very soon. I hope we continue to have more women come out and sail.

Jon Luscomb, who is Vice Chairman of the Florida EC-12 Association, presented the Florida Championship trophy to Alan Perkins. Alan won all the Florida regattas this season except for this one, which he RDed.

I am looking forward to Alan's report and I will get Doc Greer's photos, most of which were taken by the lovely and talented Karen Luscomb, posted tomorrow.

Really fun regatta village people. Hot fun, some great laughs.
Congratulations Baron and thanks for sail trim help. Good starts, clean air, fast sails,= fast boat. Hope someone got a photo of the 'kiss''.
Just as 'the dog' will be remembered at Charleston, ''the bird' will be for this regatta in the Villages.

Regarding the Regatta report my publicity director Dan Pearce came down with heat exhaustion Saturday in the Florida 90f sunshine which turned out more serious when examined in Hospital. It was a combination of the heat plus a heart issue for which Dan is now under a specialist and looks like he may have to have a pacemaker fitted.
A reminder to ALL, if it's hot during a regatta drink plenty of water, we do not want a repeat during other Summer regatta's also many thanks from Linda Pearce to Dr Greer, Brenda Pardee and Tricia Gray plus others for looking after Dan

I'm going to have to write my own report which I hope to get done in the next few days.

Happy sailing

Alan,Liz,-and a sidebar to Judith Clark- and the rest of the Villages crew;
Thank you for a wonderful regatta!
Alan had mentioned he wanted an "Epic" regatta;you really pulled it off.
Very good sailing in some trying conditions makes us the better for it.
Alan stated he would not "chase the wind" and was the right call-we often had 180* shifts on one leg.Every skipper had opportunity to really improve (or worsen) their score by a shift.
Of course Baron is immune-he just sails to the wind and goes! BZ Baron for a stellar performance!
I am really pleased by our better communication in close positions-we are getting better and I hope to see more chatter as we approach and round marks.
I don't think I heard one "well, I didn't hit you" all week-end,as it should be.
Ken Morrison is a great asset watching as we get close and I want to particularly thank him for his assistance-although his refusal to hear our protest that the bird that gave Jon his boost was clearly "outside assistance" should be appealable.
Again:thank you Villages for an EPIC regatta.

Many thanks to Liz and Alan for a very enjoyable Friday night party and to Sue and Jim Kelly for inviting us into their home for the week-end.

Judging by the strong participation of The Villages skippers this eveny is getting bigger and stronger every year and we enjoy coming back top this wonderful venue.

Great regatta even with the constant moving of the buoys and possible course changes the beats were always a challenge.

Thanks again to Alan and his fantastic crew of helpers for a well organized regatta.

Kudos to Doc Greer for reminding everyone constantly to drink lots of water and to the RDs crew for providing the refreshments.

Please find a video of the RDs 09:00 meeting on Sunday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_zvPBaTTK4&feature=youtu.be
