ONE POINT !!!!

Seems like a long time ago, the first GWTW was held by the Atlanta Model Yacht Club and I think it was 1973. 40 yrs, What a difference.
Thanks to all the Atlanta folks for a great weekend and to our hosts at AYC for the fantastic hospitality. Wind, wave, wakes, lulls, everything was there. And thanks to Doc for the 'Grown up stuff', assist to my cold.

"One Point." Seems Riechard won by one point last year. Sounds like a Dixie plot.

Thanks John M and your group for the organization and hard work. It was evident producing a marvelous event with huge member value by over the top hosting. Well Done!

ONE POINT . . . Naw it wasn't a Dixie plot. Reichard won by just one point, 'cause the competition was so good. Just one boat, perhaps one small lift, one good drop over 12 races, etc. etc. etc. We at Atlanta gave the skippers all sorts of conditions to test their meddle:18 knot breezes, white caps, pollen clouds, hudge shifts, light zephyrs with lumpy conditions, warm sunshine, free beer and wine, floating trees, ending with a steady easterly and chilly temps and Reichard won by ONE POINT fair and square. Here is the final tally:

1. Reichard Kahle, 28

2. Baron Bremer, 29 (winner of the coveted Mount Gay prediction trophy)

3. Alan Perkins, 39

4. Rick West, 63

5. Robert Greer,66

6. Joe Walter, 90 (won tie breaker)

7. Martin Gray, 90

8. David Linville, 92

9. Ian Elliott, 99

10. Gerry Cobley, 105

11. Richard Gerry, 124

12. Tom Phillips, 125

13. Mevin Jones, 126

14. Rick Gerry, 133

15. Fran Di Tommaso, 149

16. Jack Shepard, 156

17. Beck Gerry, 163 (winner of Race 11 on her wedding anniversary)

18. Bob Dudinsky, 166 (did not sail Sunday)

19. Tom Evens, 178

20. Chris Johnston, 184

21. Marty Scheuer, 193

22. Chuck Ellis, 199

23. Tim Crowley, 214

24. Jerry Fernald, 247 (Corn Toss hot shot)

25. Rita Fullick, 257

26. Alan Morris, 280

Photos and report to follow shortly after a good rest. Thank you Rick for your kind comments, however, I had a lot of good folks backing me up.

Just got home from the 6 hours of all rain driving and in the last 15 miles, one of my brakes seems to have broken loose. Kind of a sad end to a fantastic event.

Skip Allen was his usual flawless leadership as RD and John M and his crew at the Atlanta Yacht Club went way beyond the call of duty for us. They rolled out the red carpet and hosted a wonderful event in their brand new club house. Thank you all for the use of the cabins for so many of us and your warm, inviting hospitality. Truly a memorable event.

Rick is kidding because it was him that was kicking butt last year and I stole the win by just over a point in the end. Great regatta! Thank you John, Ian, Rita and all of the Atlanta Yacht Club members and volunteers that contributed to our wonderful racing experience. I wish you success in growing you EC-12 fleet and hope you will continue to host Model Yachting events. What a great place you have there!

John,Skip,
Kelli & I drove thru 8 hours of that same rain as Joe-but it did wash off all the pollen.
What a GREAT time we had and also wish to thank you and the rest of your crew for a spectacular regatta.
Tough competition, challenging course, wonderful facilities and ya'll kept us moving so got in lots of racing.
As Baron says "PERFECT"!
Kelli & I agree.

You probably saw the man with the very long lens and very trusting friend who loaned him that high priced camera. He took some pictures and here is a link to about half of them. I too think you will find a lot of them that you really like. Send me a PM and I will put you on to Greg if you want to take him up on his offer. Just for info, Greg is the new owner of "Spot the Ozmun" so we should be seeing him on the water at various regattas in the future, right Greg?

Greg says:
They should be in chronological order from Saturday morning thru Sunday. There are some pretty good shots of everyone. I think you will like them.
They are displayed in gallery format and can be played as a slide show, and some or all of the images can be downloaded and saved to your computer if you like.
If anyone is interested in the "raw" photo files or additonal photos that did not make the first cut, have them contact me and I can get them a hard copy of the entire shoot, which for general info, was approximately 825 shots.
To download an image, while viewing the photo large format, click on the gear wheel in the bottom right hand corner.

Enjoy, Greg

Great pix,
wish you sailed in Region 7,Florida.
WAIT,that vote hasn't happened yet but hope you will all support splitting region 3 into 2 regions;Fl and various islands as 7, and the remainder of the Southeast as region 3 when the AMYA vote comes up.
But really Greg, those are great photos-thank you so much.
