Deadline for entries is this weekend.

This is your last call. I will post the seeding list to start the first non-scoring heats after we get the results of the Annapolis regatta on Sunday. Points are doubled for that Regional and it should move some skippers on the seeding list.

See you at the lake.

Hopes and Prayers
Sandy has done a number on our friends up North. I saw the wide spread flooding in New Jersey and New York on TV this morning. I hope all of our sailing family members are safe and well. I am sure our regatta down here is the last thing on your minds right now. Hopefully none of you have suffered any major damage and your clean up will be quick. If however, you find that getting down to St. Augustine is going to be a challenge, please let me know and I will do my best to refund your entry.

Sandy's huge mass did push the cold our way and we are at 45 degrees this morning, but we will be warming back up through the week. The ten day forecast says we can expect 75 degrees with mostly sunny skies and 10 MPH winds out of the NNE. That is perfect for our venue.

Take care and I hope to see you all next week.

And don't forget to vote!

Joe, I have been in touch with a few folks from Maine to MD and most are without power including us here in CT. Other than a few trees and limbs down the damage was not too bad. Most are reporting the same. Thankfully the storm surge was not as high as predicted and the duration of the tropical force winds did last more than a few hours. The difficult job now lies with the power company to restore power to over 400k customers in CT alone.

The good news is that all that I have talked to are safe and well.

Thanks Chuck for the update from CT. It sounds like you guys fared better than others. I just got word from Mark Rinehart that he has some clean up to do at his home, his dad's beach house and his work. So he will not be coming now. We will miss him. I expect others to drop out do to this Sandy, but I hope most are ok and can still come.

Postby Rick West » Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:39 pm

Joe Walter has a very full plate so I will help out a bit. He would like to do this but there is so little time.

Wednesday was a great day when competitors arrived and gathered in the large conference room reserved for you us for storage of the boats and their preparation. It was the meeting of old friends, some not seen for a year.

Following the afternoon there was a reception in the lunch room of the hotel with beer and snacks. This was more visiting with friends and new ones that have not been to some of our events. It was a great occasion with great interaction.

Thursday racing day was cold and a bit blustery. The courses were the same on two sides of the lake in air into upper A Rigs and with some choosing to sail B Rigs. It was the quietest NCR I have been to and everyone commented to the positive about the polite and relaxed banter during racing. I will agree and it was very pleasant racing.

Dave Ramos dominated the scoring, coming straight out of his seeding in B Fleet to win the first scored race. He stayed there the rest of the day as you can see from the scoring posted. It is not hard to compare the racing from the seeding positions earned and posted on the NCR site for the first non-scored race to where they finished for the day. This day; by far is not the end of racing, as there is two full days ahead.

After racing a group gathered in the courtyard with drinks and chat. All were very upbeat about the conduct of racing and how much fun was had. This followed to the sixth floor to a hosted gathering for the evening by Bob and Dee Dudinsky with Papa Dick Gerry and Suzanne from Edisto Island outside Charleston. Frankie Novak treated all to a pizza and chicken wing spread to ease the pain of hunger for the late hour. Here the videos of the day by Karen Luscomb were coupled to the TV for all to see. Tom Evens of Atlanta presented professionally prepared renderings in portrait of his sensational photos of EC12 sailing; such a talent and a sharing with us.

This was the class at it best in friendship with warmth to all we have shared time with while playing with toy boats. I am so pleased to have sailed and worked with so many in the common interest of model sailing. It is times like this we understand that we are more that individuals but through warmth good friends we will remember for life.

Joe, is a very busy man and will get the scores posted soon. It is suffice to say there was significant movement in the top ten up and down. Dave Ramos is a runaway for the championship and leads 2nd place by 42 points; a blowout.

The highlight of the day was an aerial battle between a Bald Eagle and an Osprey with an 6-8" fish. This contest lasted around ten minutes to the point that a starting clock was stopped for a heat till it was over. The end came when the Osprey dropped the fish into a commercial area not accessible to either and they lost interest. It was an amazing attraction and visual of real life in the wild.

Racing was pushed to the limit of time completing 11 full races by the end of the day at a little past 1600.

Sorry for the delay in posting day two results. It has been a fun evening with many of the skippers and guests. Here are the day two scores. I wish I could fix the tabs, but you all can figure it out. Today we had shifty winds and some time was spent moving around the lake to have better windward legs. Sometimes we hit it right and sometimes it was a bit of follow-the-leader.

The first number is the position and the last number is the total score after one throwout. All the numbers in the middle are sail number and finishing position for each of the 11 heats.

Re: 2012 NCR St. Augustine, FL -- Nov 7-10

Postby Capt. Flak » Sat Nov 10, 2012 5:55 pm

Dave Ramos is the 2012 EC-12 National Champion.

Dave dominated the fleet on the first two days and kept himself safe on Saturday to protect his 42 point lead with a final margin of 32 points. Alan Perkins did his best to catch up and took home 2nd place. Dick Hedderick was 3rd, Bob Greer 4th, Reichard Kahle overcame a slow start to move up to 5th and new to model boats, but not new to sailing was Dave Dellenbaugh.

The weather was absolutely chamber of commerce grade and the wind was mostly right down the course with enough shifts to challenge all the skippers. A full report will be coming very soon. Below are the scores and again, sorry the tabs do not work.

From what I saw it was at least 6 people to throw him in the lake. Water wasn't too warm either. Congrad's to Dave for sailing one of the best Regatta's I've had the pleasure to attend!!!!!!

This year's National Championship was fantastic!!!

Joe Walter's leadership was outstanding.
Joe's regatta committee and support team were in harmony with all of the activities.
The overall organization of the event was obviously well planned.
The sailing venue, boat storage facility and hotel's hospitality were exceptional.
The weather could not have been better.
The camaraderie of all the skippers, spouses, and friends was like a large extended family.

Joe, you did good!!! Thanks for a great regatta!!!
