when scoring DNS and DNF boats, how do you figure the boats in the fleet ( Fleet +1 and Fleet +2)?

Is it the boats on the water at the start? or the boats there that day ?

Example: You have 10 boats show up, all are on the water at the start, one fails to make the start due to mechancal failure and another drops out after the start?

Get my drift?

No Pun Intended?

The scoring is all spelled out in the US Sailing book "The racing Rules of Sailing" (RRS) and on the US sailing web site.

According to US Sailing, RRS Apendix A, Rule A4.2":
DNS, DNF and DSQ are all scored 1 place more than the number of ENTRIES. This is typically interpreted to be all who have not officially withdrawn before the start of the racing. It is independant of the number of boats on the water, in the shed or just goofing around.

The scoring points can only be modified by the Sailing Instructions (SI's) for the event or the "pond rules" as commonly agreed to with the participants. But without specific changes to the rule, A4.2 will prevail.

It would be a great idea if all the model sailors were to join US Sailing. Not only to get and learn the rules but also to be able to weild some clout in their organization at some time when it might be necessary for the benefit of all RC sailors.

I'll be happy to answer any other rules questions that you have, but suggest that you also visit the ISAF web site where they have a terrific interactive section using the "case book" (appeals) as the basis for the decisions made.
