29th Century Cup Regatta at Elon, NC

Its over. It was HOT in the mid 90s with little wind. 4 qualifying heats and nine 2 fleet P/R system heats were run. 23 skippers consumed 216 bottles of water, do the math. Stopped sailing Saturday at 3:00 pm due to severe thunderstorm. Closed the event on Sunday at 12:10 pm and nobody complained. Everyone had a great time, I swear, at least they said so. Finishing positions and Scores below.

Well now John B says he can't make now, but I am planning on it. Anyone want to ride with me from Florida?

Ernest asked a question about hotels. Anybody staying at the Super 8? The price looks good to me.

We will have 24 at the pond scheduled for Elon. This is first gathering in years where the Yankees and the Floridians came. It will be glorious.

The huge news is the fountain in the center of the course is missing. Who cares why...Yeah!

We have three NCR winners and some contenders over two fleets. Stay tuned.

I send sincere regrets!
Really significant issues bar my attendence.
Fair winds and following seas to my best friends as you enjoy the lake!

Thanks to Frank and Linda and the whole crew at Elon. The wind was light to none with the rare (and strange) 10 knot gust that would come out of nowhere. And what wind there was came at us from every direction and sometimes from two or three directions at the same time. But it was some of the most exciting and nerve racking sailing I have done in a long time. I am exhausted from the pure mental strain.

Frank and company did a fantastic job and everything about this event was a joy.

Gerry Cobley did a a masterful job of getting out front early and then hanging on with some miracle come from behind saves to hold on to first place. Hats off to you Gerry.

Sailing at Elon is much like playing baseball at Fenway. It may not be perfect, but the history runs deep there. Thanks to Linda, her husband and the rest of the gang for running a great show.

Congrats to Gerry and Joe, who showed us how to sail in tough conditions.

I had a great time! I don't know what was more frustrating the winds at Elon or the fact that I had to come back to work today! Probably the work part.

Thanks to all the volunteers that made this a great event!

Frank and Linda have received my applause for and excellently run even and pond side accommodations.

Despite this being the second worst performance at a regatta, I was very pleased with the on the water sportsmanship, demeanor on the shore and general level of sailing responsibility by the rules. It was a difficult regatta to sail and everyone was calm and careful under the stress. All this makes for a fun event regardless of the personal outcomes. Thank you all.
