Thank you for hosting a wonderful weekend of sailing and socializing.
The wind was awsome. You and Izor run a great regatta. Thank you to you and Lisa for hosting dinner and drinks at your house on Saturday evening. Great job flipping burgers Jake. What a great time.

Dan, Can you tell me what part failed to cause your boat to be demasted in the heavy winds? Was it a stay, a shroud, or a fitting? I'm contemplating using .021" wire in place of the popular .018", to help prevent these failures, and I'd appreciate any imput. I'm new to EC12' just finishing my first EC12, and the boats my club now sails, Nirvana II's, carrying only 525 sq.in of sails, use a stronger solid .018" shroud.

Paul,It was the port lower shroud clevis that failed.For wire I do use .21 60# coffee colored "BRAIDED" wire for my shrouds and stays.Have fun with your new EC-12.Sailfast.[:D]DT

Just to maybe keep anyone from worrying about Sullivan clevises. I took a bunch of pictures of Danny's boat at St Aug Natls. Everything is adjustable on his rig.

Anyway he uses the black plastic clevises with the metal pin on the rig that I saw on the boat. I am not a big plastic fan. I think eventually (after many years) it might get brittle. ????

Those old plastic 1010 butt hinges (gooseneck and vang) that are no longer sold are still going strong on many a home-built-fittings boat such as Danny's. Bob Wells shows those in at least one of his books.

Scott,you are correct sir,I do you use the Hayes 2-56 plastic w/metal pin clevis.I love em because you can set-em and forget-em.I just don't like fooling around with the metal clevis's w/the little jam nut on it. You are correct the plastic ones will go bad after awhile.I do change them when they tell me it's time.Clearly the boat and wind told me so that day.One other little note was that the little section of fuel line tube that I use as a keeper to ensure the clevis stays closed ,also snapped.That gust of wind was brutal!! I do like to have as much static adjustment in my rigs as I can.Sailfast,DT
