I want to thank all the "Champions" for an outstanding display of sportsmanship, fairplay, and skill in very difficult conditions in Charleston. The event can be described in one word...CARNAGE!
We started with 17 boats and finished with 13 and many of then were sailing with taped up hulls and decks, patched sails, or damaged rigs. several skippers were down to their last suit of sails.
But when the wind was blowing steady at 18 with gusts to 25 mph, and I thought it best to call it a day, I was shouted down by 15 skippers who were hellbent on sinking at least one boat on the day. Thankfully that did not happen.
There are more interesting stories to tell including one involving a squirrel, but you will need to give me a couple of days to write the full report.
Stay tuned.
