The White Rose Regatta was conducted at Lake Redman in the village of Jacobus, just south of York, PA on June 27th and 28th. The Saturday evening dinner was hosted by our Commodore Chuck Aiken and his family at the Aiken Farm where a good time was had by all attendees.

Twelve skippers participated in the regatta. There were 16 races on Saturday and 8 races on Sunday. The wind and weather were perfect both days. With a front having moved through on Friday night the relative humidity on Saturday was low, and the breeze fresh from the northwest in the 5 to 10 knot range (or maybe a little more!) with an occasional higher gust. The sun was in and out of the clouds, with plenty of blue sky. Sunday was a bit warmer, and the winds gradually diminished, so that by the eighth race it was about time to call it a day.

Three trophies were awarded: First Place: Dave Ramos
Second Place: Mark Rinehart
Third Place: Joe Phillips

The green chevrons were awarded appropriately.

Special thanks to the Skippers who displayed superb sportsmanship, keen competition, and made the event memorable. The first place finisher was just one point ahead of second after 24 races; and similarly the last place and next to last were just separated by just 2 points. The venue got abundant praise from the skippers for the grassy conditions, easy launch set up, shady trees and delightful breeze. Several expressed the intention of returning for our regularly scheduled (every other Sunday in the sailing season) club sailing events. Thanks also to WRMYC members Pete Houghton (facilitator/ coordinator) and Jim Grove (rescue boat/ mark setter).

Lastly, I would really like to thank Doug Wotring for giving me the opportunity to serve as a race director.

Mike,

Congrats on a very well run regatta! Doug threw you to the wolves alone as a first time RD and you handled the event fairly and flawlessly. Thanks again for your efforts.
