Entries are now open for the Noreaster Regatta to be held on May 16th and 17th at FT Adams State Park in Newport RI.

This is the first of the 4 New England Cup events with points toward the Champions Regatta in Charleston, SC.

If you had not heard what a great time this was last year, read the regatta report in the 08 regattas! This is not pond sailing folks, this is as close to sailing big boats as you will get in RC. We are talking current, waves and oh yeah...wind!

We have nearly 10 boats that have already committed to joining us. I should have a skippers list in the next couple of days.

If you are thinking about making the trip to Newport, let me know as soon as you can so we can reserve a spot for you.

The organizers for this event would like to thank all those who braved the elements once again to experience a sailing venue that you simply cannot find in many places. Special thanks to Dan Crowley, our Grand RD for putting up with us for two full days of racing. Thanks also to Al Dion and Jake Leo for putting on another excellent regatta. Nice job guys.

I was going to say the same thing. In scale those waves would be like 20 feet high. Be like sailing down in the Southern Ocean in the VOR.

Before you begin to salivate for a "usual Down-under lake sail" know this is an excepitional venue for our fleets.
We are looking forward to you sailing with us; but we must be honest in saying Charleston may be breezy but not bumpy like Newport!
I've posted many pix of Charleston so you have an idea of that venue,hope you can join us for the Internationationals.

Thanks for that - I can assure our ponds may see a bit more breeze but are usually flat as well.[;)]

Only "large wave" sailing I done with RC is in 2002 when Brian Hogg (also coming to Charleston) took an AC15 around our local island - total of about 20 miles sailed in waves that were at about 2m (6') and wind at 35 knots by the end. Now that was fun and like a VOR sailing in the worst Southern Ocean storm [:D][:D][:D][:D]

A giant in EC-12 sailing in the U.S.,Dave Brawner,suggests we have an endurance race much as your friend did,but I do not think we have as cool a venue as an around the island you did.

Funny you mention endurance race - we have discussed exactly the same thing - time based rather than conditions based though!!

Our idea is to start with a practice session of 8 hours non-stop using 2 skippers per boat with max 1 hour each at a time - any shorter swaps by choice. Any pit stops must be sailed via an in and out gate to keep laps counted correctly. Most laps wins [:D]

Helps if the jetty is clsoe to the course obviously.[:p]
