Hey Guys,

If you know or think you may sailing the R3CR / GWTW, please register at https://atlantayachtclub.org/GWTW now as we need to get a handle on the critical
food and beverage requirements. Registration closes this Friday, March 24.

If you register and do not sail, we WILL return your registration fee, but alas, we WILL drink your beer. Can’t have it both ways -- that’s how it goes in the sailing world.

As Miss Scarlett was busying herself in the kitchen of their Atlanta mansion at Tara, she was considering what would be her hors d’oeuvre dish for Friday night’s Welcome Party. Earlier she had reviewed the entry list for this year’s Gone with the Wind Regatta and noticed that William Tecumseh Sherman had registered, but not her husband.

With only three days remaining before registration cuts off, she had yelled down to the basement where Rhett was getting his model EC12 yacht ready; “Rhett why haven’t you registered yet, your buddy Tecumseh has registered?” “Scarlett, I don’t give a damn.” It was obvious that Rhett did not care for Billy after all he did to trash Atlanta. Well we want you here, you hear.

Registered now to reserve your meals, your beer allotment and your space on the starting line. We do give a damn!

2023 AMYA EC12 Region 3 Championship / Gone with the Wind Regatta
by John Muhlhausen

While Scarlett’s Tara mansion in Atlanta didn’t blow down, there was plenty of attrition to the fleet sailing on Saturday due to the high winds; even our starting timer blew over, not once, but three times along with the RD’s chair. It was a regatta that lived up to its name; “gone with the wind”. The inside of the race course avoided the full strength of the wind, but those who ventured outside to gain the prevailing port lifts upwind got slammed with gusts reaching 42mph. By the end of Saturday, only 5 boats remained. Sunday was a gentler and kinder day with a 6 to 8mph breeze.

This year’s fleet was smaller than hoped for, but did not lack in quality. Like fine cream, the top sailors rose to the top in challenging conditions. Never finishing lower than 6th, Skip Miller sailed a remarkably consistent series, closely followed by fellow Floridian, Joe Walter, and Atlantan, Dave Lyons, who hadn’t sailed his EC12 in 5 years.
