hickman hulls

Postby fatrat » Sun Dec 21, 2008 2:53 pm

I am considering purchasing an ec-12 that is listed in the boat trader section. Hickman hull(Sail #1581 Hull#556), Futaba 3000 whiches. What do you think?

I guess my question is to vague. Is there any way to determine the age of this hull and is it class acceptible? Also are the Futaba whiches any good for an EC-12?

Skip Hickman made a little over 600 hulls, so this boat is one of the more recent boats, but not from the new class owned molds. I am sure it is legal. Rick West will know best.

I can't answer you on the Futaba 3000 winch. I don't know much about it, but I do use the Futaba 3802 for my jib trim.

The hull is a 95 hull standard and sold to Dave Pelletier in Alabama and registered with the Class in July 2001. This the only owner of record. That means all other that may have owned her did not notify the Class.

Alabama is outside the general population areas of the Class. The building and set up of the boat cannot be predicted due to this. I know nothing of FUT 3000 winches nor have heard of their use. The FUT 5801 is in use by some in the Class and work well for them. The prime use is the RMG 280DL SmartWinch.

However, having said this and reviewing the ad, I would think this would be a good starter boat for racing and an excellent one where pride of ownership in appearance is considered. She should also have good resale value to another beginning sailor.

#477 is thought to be close to the first of the 95 Standard production for Hickman. This was about the time the molds were being produced. I have no definite date or other data.
