(1) Venues for this event will be those offered by the US but driven mainly by a concensus of the international community. This consideration is with understanding there will be holidays involved and rightly so.
(2)International competitors will be coming here on holiday and sailing will be the prime reason but not the prime attraction for the number of days expended.
Making the event convenient to the US EC12 population is not likely to be a prime consideration. As the current head of the class here I will be responsible to the event wherever it will be held, but the decisions to location and other matters will come from a panel of the USA, NZL, AUS and GBR. I intend to invite CAN, FRA and SWE in also.
Both of the above statements are taken from posts made by the class CS one on this site and the NZ owners site.
I would like to ask as a interested party in europe how was the decision reached to use the St James Island Venue.
The reason l ask is that.
I don,t doubt the the venuse is as discribed one of the best if not the best sailing venue around and is great for a weekend event for skippers, but as those who went to NZ know well this event goes beyond just a few days sailing.
The venue is discribed as a summer holiday area, thats fine but this is happening in November !
I would guess that several travelers will be on site for maybe Six or seven days, and the other considerations to those traverling with partners/wives/family and wanting more than the park provides will be found wanting.and as the CS has said..
Sailing will be the prime reason but not the prime attraction for the number of days expended.
I feel this has been forgotten in all the excitement of this event.
