where to measure?

Postby ktm500mx » Wed Aug 29, 2012 10:45 am

I am decking a new boat and I have the delta beam chart to use as a guide (thx mr west ).
what i need to know is where to meaure the hull, direct at deck level or at the widest part of the hull
at each station? I dont want to screw this up as I am running the DMYC numbers.
thanks in advance Mike

Mike

I do not know if Rick is going to reply, so I will. The Beam measurement is taken at the Hull to Deck joint not the Max beam of the Hull or Tumble holme.

The nautical definiton of beam is: The breadth of a ship at the widest point.

In our rule that would be the breadth of the boat at the widest point on the hull at each (5 inches apart) station. So by definition that would include tumblehome.

I am not saying this is accepted by anyone in the EC-12 class, but it is something that might possibly be considered.

Memories are getting shorter. We do not measure at the tumblehome point and the reasons have been stated several times.

Did you hear me screaming 3000 miles away at the mention of the word? Argh!
