Battery Indicator

Most of us have a battery guage on our transmitters, but I have not seen one on the receiver. I know they exist, and I have a simple one on my electric shaver (6 LEDs) which would do fine if I decided not to shave again (!).

Does anyone have any experience or sources? I think it would need to give a quick indication when you turn on the boat before launch, but not consume sgnificant power...

I think that is a great idea. The LED on your shaver (I didn't think you used it) must be available somewhere. And, wherever the "somewhere" is will have other such gizmos. Work on it and I will too...[8D]

Another one somewhat cheaper. ACC617 on-board battery checker. $15.95, but don't know how it would interact with the RMG winch on a separate power circuit from the receiver.

Check with your local hobby shop. They make the LED type for RC aircraft & cost between $15 and $20.

You can mount it so you can see it easily between heats.

An Internet search for LCD voltage indicators was really wild, from wiring diagrams for hobbist to OEM panel suppliers. I did find a Vector portable DC indicator (0-12VDC)and ordered it. It is refurbished and only $8. I will disassemble or cut to get at the panel...will advise.

I have also asked a few questions around the Web and see what fishing brings.

All RC gear supplies are selling only LED units. I don't like lights for instruments.

Thanks for all the ideas and feedback.

I finally just shelled out $15 for the Voltmaster LED unit. Only works with 4.9v (maybe there is a 6v version?) but as I only need a go-no go indicatiobn, the 7 LEDs are fine for my purpose, and easy to read in all light conditions.

Here's a neat little switch with led battery readout, and also serves as a charging jack. (scroll down).

Adding to my refit list.
