Never. With good reason. If your RMG ever misbehaves send it back to Rob and he makes it right. He is an incredible fellow and just astounds me with his ability and kindness.

Also, if one did show up used... it would sell for about the same price as a new one.. or.. it would not sell. So the buyer would either need to be desperate to get one faster than from a local dealer in the USA, or..go ahead and pay the full price to get a completely new unit.

When I was building Hobie's back in the early 80's, they had a buy-back program, where they would buy back your Hobie 16 for up to 4 years for WHAT YOU PAID FOR IT if maintained in reasonable condition. The used boats sold for as much as the new ones.

Rob builds a solid winch, and everyone knows it, so it holds it's value.[:)]

I have an unused but 3+ year old RMG380 Sailwinch. Have there been any updates that are worth having or can I use it "as is"? Also is this winch overkill for an EC-12?

It will work wonderfully but it is overkill.Even the 280 will pull those Georgia "lighter" pines out of the ground.Yes there have been updates to RMG winches making them eaiser to program with 2.4 & fail-safe radios. If you want to sell yours and get a 280DL-the perfect EC-12 winch I'll buy yours today so you can order your 280 direct from Bob.

Bob, what the heck do you need a 380 for? Are you going to mount it on the front of your Jeep so you can go muddin off Southern Blvd? Now that I think of it, the 380 should pull your jeep out of just about anything.[;)]

By the way, Chesapeake Performance Models is now a servicing dealer for RMG which means they will be stocking parts as well as winches and have the ability to repair them if they ever need it!

Hello Bob

My RMG 380 has been in my boat going on nine years. It has never failed, gets heavy use, and no complaints. Don’t get your fingers caught in the lines when that little rascal is moving, it has the potential to cut of the blood flow…. Permanently. It is a great winch, but with the latest updates to the newer 280, the 380 is probably best suited for boats on the scale of the J-Boat. However, it will definitely work in your boat.
