I have an RMG380D with a 32mm Std drum. Will this work ok on my EC? Or should I get something different?

Thanks,

Charlie, The 380 will work just fine on the EC-12, but keep in mind that it is way more power than is needed and if anything snags up down below, you can rip things apart. I had a 380D in my old boat and had to rebuild the bow block after the main sheet snagged on another boat in a raft-up. You don't want to sheet in when you hook up with another boat. The winch is that strong.

I mounted my 380 on the front bumper of my truck to pull me out of the mud. [:D][:o)] Just kidding.

You will be fine with it, just make sure things and neat and clean below deck.

I think the 32mm drum is ok, but you might want to invest in a Z drum from RMG for better sheeting control close hauled. I use the 32zs7, which it looks like he just changed to 32ZS6.

Thanks for the info. I'd use a 280 but this one was given to me and was NIB.

Anyone use one of the newer self tesnioning drums?

I have the new drum on my 12 and IOM (boo, hiss they all say!![:D]) and it works great. In particular the IOM where I needed a bungy to keep tension on the sheets. This is now dispensed with and all works well.

Just an update, I have resolved my issue. I sent the winch back it was set for 13 turns, it now does 7 and has the smaller zs7 drum. Thanks for all the help guys.
