Receiver has the jitters

Out of the blue, a new problem.

The winch and rudder servo both "jitter". That is, they move back and forth slightly, about 1/8" to 1/4" of movement.This happens about once oir twice per second. It does this at any sail position. I made no changes to anything below deck.

On one occasion. I tilted the boat on its side and it stopped?

Where is your antenna? Reroute your wiring away from the receiver if possible, especially the power wires. Failing that, do a range check. Collapse the antenna and walk away from the boat. Operate the rudder as you go. You should get at least 150' before you lose it. Anything less than 50' requires a retuning of the transmitter and reciever.

How do you tune the radio?

Transmitter tuning requires special equipment like a spectrum analyzer to look at the RF output. One must be hold at least a 2nd class FCC technicians license to do so. The receiver is then matched to the transmitter. It is fine tuning the signal for the best reception.

Try unplugging the servos one at a time. A dirty servo pot will create similar symptoms.

If the jittering quits with the servo unplugged, two options:

1) disassemble and clean servo pot. Not that difficult

2) New Servo

The range with the antennae down was ok.
I will try the pot cleaning ...........with tuner spray?
Would a dirty pot on the RNG affect the rudder?

It didn't jitter last week at all

Hmmm.....before you try to clean any pots, try to isolate the problem. Disconnect the winch and try your servos individually then together. If you have a winch problem, contact Rob Guyatt about what to do. If you have to get to the servo pots, make sure that you can open them up to clean the wipers. To do that, take a cotton swab and some alcohol then clean the surface of the wiper and the contact. Then apply a lite coating of pot lube. Reassemble the servo and check centering before you close. What radio do you have?
