B Rigs

Postby Chuck Luscomb » Fri Sep 07, 2007 7:09 pm

I was parusing the build information and I am looking for rig dimensions for a B rig. Mast height, spreader height, jumper height.

Did I look in the wrong places?

Chuck,

You might try looking on "sails & rigs" page 2 and then 3456 if necessary and perhaps ec12.info.

edited for clarity
You might try looking at previously posted discussions of B rigs in this discussion area which is entitled "sails & rigs". Take a look on page 2 and then page 3, page 4, page 5 and page 6 if necessary. And you could also perhaps take a look in the ec12.info site where Rick shows dimensions for a B rig.

Mark Rinehart once told me that he drops all of the measurements down 10% (mast height, forestay attachment, spreaders). This works for me and is easy to remember.

Thanks guys. I have some other b rigs to look at now. Some don't cut the rig down at all and others do. I think you are right about the 10% thing Reichard.

Thanks again,

Chuck

Sorry Scott, I did not understand the comment.

In the rig section of the building site there are guidelines for a B rig to the specifications of the sail. The sail specifications have dictated our rigs to date. The numbers are there on the site.

Glad you asked. I am in hopes that all will need one. I love it when it blows.

I'm also building a B Rig but I'm considering a 7/8th type rig with shrouds the same height as A rig but mast 6" shorter. No forward facing jumpers but double spreaders (upper and lower), plus lowers and lower/lowers. Have any of our Northwest and NZ Skippers any thoughts?
On watching 'mast collisions' it seems that the jumpers are the bits that alway seem to get locked together.
In addition does the jib require as much balancing to enhance gooswinging as with the A rig?

Wow Scott,

I guess I WAS looking in the wrong places or not looking at all! It seems that there is B rig info all over the place. You must get tired of this question it seems...
