twirling sheets

My 80 lb spectra sheets seem to be twisting/spinning as I sheet in and out. At the end of the day they are in curls. I use the standard setup on an RMG with a standard RMG stepdown drum. The elastic is dressmaker.

I wonder if I should go to a metal collector loop, maybe with a double (upper and lower) elastic so that it cannot possibly spin. Maybe also a fish spinner?

Any ideas? Thank you.

I have a brass fishing swivel connected between sheets and drum line.Seems to work pretty well.

You might be using "laid" line. Suggest you switch to "Braided" line even if the load is lower, I use 50# without any trouble. Be sure to inspect frequently both the line and the fairlead hole (Spectra can "saw" some materials. I replace the sheets 1 time mid summer and another over the winter break. Beats the heck out of having one break when you are near the head of the pack

I use 80lb spectra, I have never experienced twist as I use a swivel.

In response to Pete's post, I found out quite by accident that Spectra can saw itself. I was doing a tourture test on a CAP Maquettes block. To attach the block to the rafter, I used 150# Spectra with a bowline looped over a nail. I ran 50# dacron through the block to a bucket with 20# of lead. After lifting the bucket a couple dozen times, the Spectra snapped right at the knot. So, I tied another bowline and looped it over the nail again. Sure enough, the same thing happened. I then replaced the Spectra with dacron and completed the test without anymore line problems. I am told that Spectra sawing itself is something that kite flyers are worried about.

The CAP Maquettes block gave out at the 20# mark while the PeKeBe block survived just fine.

In full size practice, to prevent kinking, the rope has to be pulled off the spool with the spool rotating. In other words, don't lay the spool flat on the workbench and pull the spectra off. Hang it from a string or let it spin around a shaft. Maybe this will help.
