Jib Twitcher

There has not been a lot of development of the jib twitcher since the EC12 manuals were published.

The purpose of the twitcher is to be able to set the jib to the preferred side in light winds. I believe it has little value in normal to higher winds.

Most of us have resorted to balancing the jib with weight to help it set properly. Yet this additional weight is a detriment in higher winds.

What say ye, is there value in a twitcher? or is it just one more thing to go wrong?

In Optimizing the EC12, mention is made to develop a twitcher using a drum and winch rather than an arm arrangement. Has anyone tackled this and can you report your design and findings

Thanks

I have my boat radio board set up to use an arm on a servo. I have yet to install the attachment on the boom to control the angle. I also have my transmitter set up with a three position switch to move the servo either left or right depending on the jibe. Now that I've seen the weighted boom in action, I'm thinking twice about installing the twitcher function. Watch this space for updates.

Paul,

I have never had a problem getting the jib to go wing 'n' wing with the counter balance weights. When the wind is up, I use a different A rig with little or no weight so extra ounces are not a factor there. Until I get passed downwind because I did not have a jib twitcher, I am going to stick with three channels and focus on the right thumb.

Just out of curiosity, where could someone buy a 3 position switch for a transmitter?
