It is safe to say in this string by that said in the other one, that tension of the topping lift used on my rigs is a .012 stranded wire. This was tested in 2007 and all rigs converted the following season. It has served me well.

The bungee and bowsie is a complication first and an increase in drag on the vertical second. This is mitigated when fashioned on the boom but still a complication to fashion. The wire is simple and low drag when the adjuster is on a slider on the boom; clean, aerodynamic and stable. Line flys when the boom is lifted, wire tends to coil.

Mike,

Mine is like Ricks. The adjustment is along the jib boom rather than in the vertical section like yours. Keeps the windage down and helps prevent snags. Not saying it does not happen from time to time for me but it happens a whole lot less.

I have used the boom elastic but now prefer a 6" piece of elastic mounted low on the topping lift with double half hitches.Granted more windage, but quick and easy to adjust.
