Kevlar Standing Rigging Is This Crazy?

Has anyone had any experiance with using high tech (spectra, kevlar) braided line instead of fishing wire line for the standing rigging?

Seems like a great way to shave a few pounds. Well, maybe not pounds but certainly a few ounces.

I think this is the direction I may go in the future.

let you guys know how it comes out.

my rough estimate would save you about 3/10th of an ounce. Don't spend it all in one place!

Hi Shawn,

I'm currently using 80lb braided spectra for all of my standing rigging (Stren super braid .02" diameter). The advantage, in my opinion is the ease of using it. It's not subject to kinking, doesn't stretch any more than braided stainless wire, and is much easier to replace at the pond if something should go amiss. (Just last weekend, a fellow sailer's wire backstay slipped through his crimp. Took only seconds to re-rig with spectra).
