Anyone have any good tips for taping off a water line for painting. I have both ends of the hull marked and need to make sure its where it needs to be in the middle....[:(]

OK, its done...probably look like crap in the water but it sure looks good upside down on a crate![:D]

I made a support jig that holds the boat level at the desired waterline. Then I tape a small marker on top of a board that is the same height off the table as your waterline and run it around the perimeter of the hull.

Mark the ends of the hull, shine a laser level through the marks and follow the line with tape. I like Mark's idea better though, thats how the old timers did it...only they did it upsidedown on the building board.

I have done it all three ways. For me the easiest and most accurate way is the water and talc. (sawdust in my case) All three work. All three require care. Waterlines look good and help in discerning the angle of heel.

I just completed my first EC12 build and to get the waterline correct I did all my sanding and prep to the hull and then completely rigged the boat and floated it in a float tank and took a can of spray paint and very lightly misted the hull. I let it stand for a few minutes and then pulled the boat from the tank. Perfect masking line!! I lightly sanded the mist and then masked and painted the hull.
