Can anyone tell me what the distance is from where the rudder post enters the hull to the water line? In other words, how much does the rudder tube need to be sticking up to insure that it is above the water line?
Thanks,
ME.

You can make a very short rudder post tube if you use bearings and water proof grease. The design and building is described well on Rick West's site.

This is an extremely good way of keeping the water out and the rudder arm low.

Mike,
About 3 1/2" should work fine. That is the length tube I always sent with my rudders.
